Today I share my conclusions on my latest purchase, a #Squier #ClassicVibe #Strat. I've had it a few weeks now and the "honeymoon" period is over - how do I feel about this guitar now it's settled in?

Had my Strat for 45 years, still love it although it might be heading to Agrajag for a fret job fairly soon! Those classic vibes are great, I just acquired a CV 60's Jazz Bass in Daphne Blue this week, it's my first bass and I needed one for recording at home. Can't put it down!

Richard Thompson, folk rock god, has a 59 strat with one modification, he's removed the volume knob so he doesn't knock it accidently. if your palm muting, it's really easy to knock it.

I can't say no to Strats! ❤️‍🔥🕊️🤘🏻 (As much as I have a very pointy Jackson JS Dinky with 24 frets, hardtail, and humbuckers out on the stand at the moment...!)

Hi John! I have a brown sunburst Classic Vibe 50s Strat, an older one which was said to have the Tonerider Surfari pickup set. I gave the glossy neck a bit of a rub down and looks and feels even better. No tone for the back pickup but may get the mod done at some point. I love the sound of it. My guitar journey has been the opposite to you. I started off with humbucker equipped guitars, mainly ES335 copies and I eventually worked out I prefer single coils. So I now have my Baja Tele, Squire Strat and a few Harley Benton offsets. Yes I do find I knock the Strat's volume control, mainly when I'm playing and lounging on the sofa at the same time. So maybe playing position has something to do with it. I think the thing I've noticed is that affordable humbucker equipped guitars tend to sound worse than their single coil counterparts and you need a guitar like yours, with the upgraded Burstbuckers, to get a better humbucking sound. Perhaps your views on mini-humbuckers would be interesting. You did like that Harley Benton TE90 you had a while back. (I have one of those too.) 🎸🎸

John. Interesting to hear that you've only recently heard the criticism about the volume knob placement. I thought it was just me being out of touch with guitar culture, but maybe it really is a recent criticism.

Not surprised you are done with the Strat, but it was a lot of that you revisited it for a few videos. I love Strat tones (depending on the pups), just not a fan of playing one. Only one I owned was a Japanese Squier in the 1990s that went to my daughter for a decade of hard use till she went over to keyboards exclusively. My only compromise now for those Strat tones is my Lead II and it's smaller size and two pups are enough to scratch the itch.

You can use styrofoam cut to the dimensions of the under side of the volume knob placed inside then put back on the pot. Makes it much harder to knock while playing.

The Fender Player Lead II is on clearance around dealers now, slightly smaller than Strat, has two alnico 5 strat single coils and string through/hard tail bridge. I have this Lead II, kind of a Tele/Strat hybrid and two pups is fine, though I put a Twangbanger in the bridge for a little more Tele oomph. There's also a Lead III has two alnico 2 humbuckers.

Hi John, sorry to inform you, but the whole Strat fascination has finally worn off for me, and I`ve switched to Tele`s instead, can`t explain why, I just happen to prefer the shape & feel of a Tele, far more than most Strat`s. 😎🎸
