I was so happy when a robin started visiting after my Nan passed away coz she believe robins were loved ones. Was devastated when I found the cat had left the dead robin under the Christmas tree. Can’t make it up. All I know is that my Nan would have had a little chuckle coz she had a great sense of humour.

Emma: Thinning things out around your large tree, although you feel bad for needing to do it. Will make everything else much healthier in the end. Making your little nature island a nice feature of the plot. I am sure Einstien will eventually forgive you.😁

Hi Emma, firstly thanks for the entertainment and gardening ‘expertise’. You have fast become my favourite allotment vlogger. I don’t have an allotment but have a big enough garden to be almost self sufficient in fruit & veg. I’m 4 years in and like you learning from mistakes. I am commenting because I am a firm believer of right tool for the right job and your saw is not the right tool. It us a woodworking tool and not a pruning saw so please treat yourself, they are not that expensive. Thanks for the laughs.

You need to scoop the duckweed off the surface of the pond, it blocks out the light and kills off the oxegenating pond weed, which means life leaves the pond.

The tree you’ve cut down is a hazel, it will grow back! You’ve just coppiced it. So it will grow lots of small branches which in a few years you can cut back again and use them on the allotment as bean poles etc 😊

The issue with the saw sticking. Get a candle and rub the sides of the saw with it. Both sides and along the teeth. It will stop the blade sticking. You will have to reapply this when it starts to stick again. Hope this helps

I really hope you checked that area before clearing it & using those sharp tools as overgrown areas like that make perfect nest sites for our precious little hedgehogs, now vulnerable to extinction in this county & they need all the help they can get & allotments is one area you certainly will come across hedgehogs nesting. September into October is when they have there second litters & it'll be an absolute disaster if anyone disturbs a hedgehog nest with mum & hoglets as she's likely to either kill her young or abandon the nest, either outcome would be terrible for the hoglets.

You've done an amazing job, Emma, I know it can seem really daunting. I hot a new plot in June. Definitely rip out every trace of that grass/sedge. It's an absolute menace in my garden. Completely takes over. Even if you think you've pulled out every last seedling, it still comes back! Never attempt to pull it with your bare hands. I completely shredded my fingers (copious amounts of blood! Like paper cuts). Defo keep all the poles you've cut for bean poles. Much better than bamboo! Love your videos. Jo

Thank you for your videos Emma, they always inspire me and brighten my day! You seem to achieve an incredible amount at the allotment......far more than I do. How much time, on average do you spend at the allotment (minus the time spent filming, which I know will be a significant amount)? I'm trying to be a bit more focused on my plot, but I do get distracted by the nice jobs and let the difficult but important jobs get a bit out of hand. It's wonderful to see your progress over the seasons, thank you.

Got my planner, it’s amazing your artwork is brilliant. Your new plot is coming along great, you have made a massive difference on the bit you have done. I’ve cut down( well a company came and cut down) 3 massive Hawthorne trees, I’ve hummed and hard for 3 years and finally done it. The different has been massive. A grape vine has suddenly appeared with fruit. Everything has grown so well, in fact I’ve had the best year in 8 years, light on the allotment definitely makes a difference.

Get a proper saw, bow saw or loppers to tackle your trees, a wood saw will always snag, its the wrong tool, and some boots!. Working a plot in plimsolls is asking for trouble. Anything can be under that ground and your not protected Right tools and protection hun... Keep up the content, love it. But be safe. .
