Nice way to meld two ropes together. Very useful for broadening a rope or hiding two ropes where there should be one, in a decorative pattern.

Thanks for the great video Mikko. I have watched many of your videos and have been fascinated by the great variety in the work you do. I am still very much a novice at decorative work but finally was able to make the key fob with the matthew walker knot. The technique you demonstrate here in this video was super helpful. Thank you so much for the work you do- it is inspiring !

Finally heard you say and then you twist the rope! Otherwise it just doesn't work. Thanks

Fantastic! So glad you did this one, Mikko: I watched the bell rope fob over and over, wondering how you magically got those two ropes together...thank you!

Yes, you make it very clear-both the technique, which is easy and interesting, but also how and why it is not a proper join. I suppose that if I whipped it with a seizing it would be very stable, and maybe strong, yet could not be made secure-never as strong as the rope alone. Nevertheless, a great technique for decorative uses. I am delighted to learn your trick!

Thank you for the great videos Mikko. I came across your bellrope video and it happens I'm reconstructing a clapper/bellrope that went missing. I am new to this and interested in the brass bushing that appears in the rope loop at 1:07 in this video, could you please tell me the name of this part (is it a bushing? are they generally available?) I was considering a rope thimble but this looks more elegant. Also, is it possible to integrate a different colored cord (e.g. making the footrope knot red - I should post this on the bellrope video)?

Hi Brian. Yes, that is a round brass thimble, they can be hard to come by so I make them myself. For adding colors, check this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p164m6J5jrOghZo

Thanks for the tutorial! Question: Would this same basic principle work for four strand rope? I imagine that that point it would be 7 strands with a core?
@mikkosnellman2 жыл бұрын
I have never tried but it should. Though for 7 strand rope , in theory, you would need a slightly larger core. Worth a try.

I want to start practicing and have been looking at a lot of ropes, what type and thickness do you recommend for a beginner?
@mikkosnellman2 жыл бұрын
That all depends on the project you are doing. Find instructions in Des Pawson books or my videos.
