Brilliant video , the best way I was told about the importance of warming up and cooling down was by spencey ( who I was on FaceTime for 4 hours , on a virtual drinking session on Saturday night ..... talked about this yt channel , he watches it and likes it ) but I remember , him saying .....muscles are like Blu-tac .... when you get a bit of blue tac and it’s cold when you pull it apart it breaks very easily , .... but when you work the blu-tac it becomes warm and you can stretch it , he said it’s the exact same principles for muscles , really enjoying your channel , and your professionalism , cheers 👍

I recommend using kettlebells as part of anyone's fitness routine. They are great for cardio, strength, and mental toughness in one package. Especially if you use them for circuit training/HIIT. I've been training hard for selection, which is on the 2nd/3ed November. I'm hoping to join my local reserve unit as a Port Operator (RLC). My current fitness routine is, •Warm up/mobility training •Around a 2 mile run •Kettlebell/clubbell training. And sometimes I bodyweight or dumbbell training •Cool down/static stretching I'm also trying to get into the routine of doing stretching/yoga on my rest days.

@Rangermedia
@Rangermedia 4 жыл бұрын
Get conditioned, so and potentially now start to progress some as you have the time. It’s just important not to arrive in peak condition but the Christmas week should give you plenty of rest before you head. Be able to do riged press-ups so absolute perfect form. Banging out 47 in 2 mins with perfect form will have you in a great place. Pull-up also correct form both under and over hand (sets of 5) then progress every 4 weeks if they get to easy. Squats and planks both sides and front, the stronger your core is the easier running will be when you arrive.

Is weight-training common among soldiers? I know the army are big on endurance running and bodyweight movements (pull-ups, dips, push-ups, sit-ups etc), but do a lot of guys lift weights as well? Obviously you don't want to get excessively big because that will make running a lot harder, but I am around 82-84KG and big into my lifting. I'd like to be able to maintain my physique/strength when I go into the army. Do you think this will be possible?

Easy fix for you - Get up at 4 am in the crisp cold air, do timed shuttles, or 30-sec run. 30 sec walk and keep repeating. It will burn your lungs out and you will throw up little black lung oysters, throw up a few times but your lungs will be used to the air in your lungs and you wont need a smoke! Money saved! You would end up being a liability with that attitude, maybe cost someone their life , just because you are extremely lazy , not because you are a smoker , your question made about as much sence as saying would I be a good vegan if I still had goose fat on my roast potatoes ....... if you are lazy and not motivated when you join up , you are about as much use as a pair of sun glasses in Hiroshima in 1945 as your laziness will come through Hopefully this snarky answer meets the expectation of your silly question lol

Another great video! 😂 I feel like I need to get back out and do another running sesh! How much fitter after basic training would you be expected to be at when you head off to battalion, is there like a minimum standard or would it be just as fit as possible?
@Rangermedia
@Rangermedia 4 жыл бұрын
So it’s impossible to be in peak condition all the time mate but you definitely just want to be able to smash out assessments comfortably and generally just keep up with everyone. There are people who arnt as fit as others but you still see them working their asses of during sessions then there are some you can see are just being idle. In short mate it’s just about staying on top of your fitness when in battalion or unit. Then start to move into a more intense training program when you have something coming up, op tour or course etc.

Fitness has definitely changed yeah, 8mile cft with 55lbs was a test of both physical and mental robustness, then the PFA with 1.5mile run in sub 10:30. Times change mate, I definitely wouldn’t let it me the thing that’s stops you from joining. In basic training there is a syllabus and you stick to it rigidly. From what I’ve heard.... 89- 95 ....infantry fitness has become less damaging, but still gets you there fitness wise ...... the thing to remember is fitness is your own personal choice .... if your happy going out in the morning for a run with your platoon then do that , but if you want to make military life easier then train hard ..... in Cyprus before I left ,my friend and I did the platoon run every morning then we went out at night , did 6-8 miles , followed by an hour and a half doing free weights , I was only 5ft 6 I weighed 12.5 stone and had a pair of 32 inch waist jeans I needed to wear a belt with lol ....running on tarmac roads is no good , as you seen in this video , most of the running was off road , do that as much as you can (off road ) ..... just a few tips from someone who has been there and done it , like the guy who owns this channel who has done it and still doing it , you are in very good hands , listen to him and absorb his experience and knowledge..... wish channels like this where here before I joined up

I can do the 2k run in 9 minutes but i can barely hit level 8 on bleep test. Its so frustrating as want to join the paras and you need level 11.6 on bleep test
@Rangermedia
@Rangermedia 4 жыл бұрын
So you have the fitness you just need to alter your style more now. The 2km your moving constantly with no stops the bleep test your shuttling. So incorporate that into a session, bringing in agility and that explosive power. Also strength training, jump squats and target hip flexor, glutes the whole sha bang. It’s hard for me to give you specifics. You’ve defo got the base fitness with your run time, it’s not just tweaking things for how your event is.
@Xavier-zd4jq
@Xavier-zd4jq 4 жыл бұрын
I totally get you. I was getting a bleep test score of 5 and I got 10.3 at the assessment centre. I did a lot of bleep tests, 50m sprinting sessions mixed in with HIIT sessions. One thing that helped me was an alternative bleep test, run for 2 beeps, rest for 2 beeps. Also if you have a watch/timer I would recommend doing a 30-20-10 interval sprint. So 30 secs of walking, 20 second of running and 10 of sprinting, do 5 reps and rest for 2 minutes. Overall do like 4-7 sets depending on ability. Its 100% do able, as Ranger said, it's all about mental resilience too. Get in the zone and give it your 100%
@YeNZeC
@YeNZeC 4 жыл бұрын
I'd keep up the long slow runs and do the beep test regularly. 2km at 4:30/km is harder then the Beep test. Work on your aerobic base by training in zone 2. Take a look at the PRMC Training plan, all the info is there, you'll be laughing.

Ive been an on off smoker for years. I was smoking from the age of 13. I stopped at 19 for 18 months and started again before I went into basic. I then stopped again 3 years ago for 6 months and started again. I then stopped again in Feb this year and haven't touch one since and don't indent to. The first 3 to 4 weeks are the hardest I would say. I still have the odd craving now but they go near enough straight away I used nicotinell lozenges 2mg ones.Take it day by day. I now need motivation to start running again haha. You can do it 👍🚭

I live a walk away from the the 3 peaks do you think if I just run up a quarter of the hill 3 times a week it would improve my fitness
@Rangermedia
@Rangermedia 4 жыл бұрын
Fell running is an assume form of training. I’d say it would be more longer distance etc of your going to do it use fartlek training. It means continuous running but with intervals in it periodically, during your intervals working really hard then bring it do to a decent jog not a slow one, repeat this. If your going into the hills make sure you have the better footwear and right kit with you. Also throw in flat surface training (shuttle sprints) to mimic the bleep test and get used to the agility and explosive power.

@@paranoiayeti2672 Its just going to take some time mate it sounds like your peaking if you are giving max effort and this is happening. Just need to increase yiur fitness so your body can get through the lacti acid build up. Sometimes less is more when it comes to training. Make sure your also working on your exposive power and just general strength of your core and legs.

All medical questions are best being answered by the professionals, the heart is a mega important organ so I’d say if you’ve got any sort of conditions relating towards it, it will need confirmed by the doctors etc on the next steps available to you.
