I think the protagonist in the video's story is the guy in yellow. He misses his girl and in order to escape his feelings, he partakes in this horrible, vile, chaotic lifestyle as a way to move on, but he can't, he misses her and if you pay attention to the end of the video, you can see him not actively participating in a lot of the bullshit that's going on, he's just sitting back, on the ground, looking depressed, searching up online what women want in a man. It's about wanting to escape from the past and ending up in a horrible, horrible place, trying to remember how it was back then (ie trying to get a glimpse of us). And I mean... the whole video is haunting, it feels like being part of the most horrible and depraved gang that's ever existed. It feels like falling off the deep end after a traumatic event. /shoutout to EtrianDemifiend

I feel like This song represents something more than just going through heartbreak. It’s depression, loneliness, loss of self control, insecurities, anger, rage. It shows the pain and struggles of being a human in this world. The insanity that goes on. Especially during these dark times. In Joji’s voice I get this vibe that he’s telling us that no matter what happens. No matter how much pain we feel. Everything is going to be ok in the end. It may not seem that way now but it will.

My wife passed away 6 years ago after giving birth to our daughter. Every night, I read to her while she stares deeply into my eyes and listens intensely. I know that it probably isn't common to relate this song to a father-daughter relationship, but this song makes me miss my wife so much more. It also makes me love and cherish my daughter so, so much. I know that she won't be like this forever, and daddy won't always be her favorite person, and she will eventually get older -- but right now I'm happy, just spending time, passing it by in her arms.

The song expresses the singer's struggle to move on from a past relationship. Despite his current girlfriend's perfection, he still finds himself longing for his ex. He feels a connection to his ex through his current girlfriend's eyes, but he can't fully commit to her. The singer questions if his ex is happy in her new relationship and hopes that she will someday feel lonely and think of him. Ultimately, the song is about unrequited love and the difficulty of letting go.

Joji conveys the emotional complexity of being in a relationship while still longing for a previous one. The song portrays someone who is physically present with their current partner but emotionally tied to a former lover. The main theme revolves around nostalgia and the pain of comparison. The narrator sees fleeting reminders ("a glimpse of us") of their past love in moments with their current partner. This creates an inner conflict: they care about their current partner but can't fully commit emotionally because they are still haunted by the memories of someone else. The song highlights the bittersweet nature of love and loss, exploring themes of emotional attachment, regret, and the struggle to move on. It resonates deeply because it captures a universal feeling-being stuck in the past while trying to live in the present.

And when I’m looking at him, I know he’s lookin at me and he’s not thinking the same thing. I’m who he had to settle for because he can’t have who he really wants. I only know about this song because I heard him listening to it. Trust me when I tell you that it is the most heartbreaking when you interpret it just as it’s meant to be interpreted.

This song really represents losing one’s self. Throughout the video there’s a lot of situations where it seems like someone is just trying to fuck around with their life in order to cope with the fact that they don’t know what to do with themselves anymore. Trying to change and move away from the past but just still ending up in the same fucked up world. This video is genuinely a true piece of art that shows how it truly feels to feel alone. If you’re reading this and are having thoughts like these, you aren’t alone

It's straight up Art. I thought it was gonna be another neat joji track, but I watched the video and was just speechless. No matter the situation, the song perfectly demonstrates someone who is completely stuck in life. As someone who's felt the same way for years, this song made me break down. I may have never had a relationship or have done risky activities, but the video's overwhelming amount of chaos, apathy, and loneliness hit me right in the face.

Filling emptiness with self destruction, something I've never experienced but had friends go through it. Drowning in drugs, alcohol and giving little care for anything. Its hard to watch and help people through that, especially if it's over a girl, but I coudnt imagine how hard it would be to go through it myself - this music video is just simply a work of art, the emotion just pours through the screen.

A man trapped in his own mind, A man who doesn’t know how to receive love, A man who cares but doesn’t know how to do better, a man who lives off of the only thing he knows (chaos). This video makes this song 10x more deep. Imagine wanting to do better for a loved one but not having the power to do so. The feeling of uselessness. Not being capable of seeing your worth. Hiding behind chaos and temporary glimpses of “happiness”. This is how I take this video and song. It’s beautiful yet chaotic, sad and hopeless, it conveys a feeling of loneliness in such a different way than other songs I can’t quite put my finger on it but the feeling is just… different. The time and effort in this is so overwhelmingly amazing. Made me feel emotions I hadn’t felt in a long time.

I interpret this song not as someone who lost a relationship, but a part of themselves. Whenever I hear this song it makes me reminisce of the innocent carefree happy child I used to be (I'm thinking of the way it was) and it makes me sob violently. I wish I could go back to being that person; now I'm always exhausted and my mental health keeps declining. I said I'm fine, said I'll move on with life but I'm only here passing time idly; hoping to find some small moment of happiness, a glimpse of what was.

that was me this beginning of the year. I was so close to giving up, actually I did give up. I was so close to ending it all. I took a much need break from life and everything that came with it. I decided not to interact with anything or anyone. And it didn't get better right away. I laid in bed all day sometimes not even watching anything, just laying there. Then maybe after a month or so, I started leaving my room. I attempted to keep up regular hygiene which is something I only know do somewhat routinely. Then it was introspection and finding what you actually want out of this life. What do you actually want to do that is not influenced by expectations or pressures of others on you. And then its mustering up the courage to take that leap. I essentially change my life course in the latter stage of education. My relatives were concerned with it being so late. And I had to reiterate that IT was MY life and THIS DECISION IS A RISK ON MY FUTURE I WAS WILLING TO TAKE because if I don't take this risk THERE IS NO FUTURE FOR ME. It's hard but I stopped listening to people especially when they think they know what's best and give advice like " you need to start getting your shit together" or "just do it" like I don't know that already. And those who can't possibly fathom that thinking about doing something and actually going through with it are two different things. But after the self turmoil and breaking free from the pressures and expectations I can tell you now I am not necessarily happy but rather content with the choices I have made now. I've managed to rebuild apart of me that I thought was lost in time. The happiness and joys that were prominent in my childhood. I know if you're mind is made there is nothing I can say really and truly to inspire you, but take this from a person who was where you are right now in August 2021 up until the essentially April/may of 2022, that recovery is possible and things you reminisce about are still achievable and still brings the same joy that you felt just maybe in other forms. I used to paint and write a lot but I haven't in years because they don't bring joy anymore. Now I play solitaire on the daily multiple times a day in my living area with a deck of cards I had for ages and the joy I get from wining propels me to move on. Good luck on finding yourself and I really hope you make it past this seemingly never-ending or rather permanent part of your life.

Lyrics, for anyone who wants, since I didn’t find any in the comments: She'd take the world off my shoulders If it was ever hard to move She'd turn the rain to a rainbow When I was living in the blue Why then, if she's so perfect? Do I still wish that it was you? Perfect don't mean that it's working So what can I do? (Ooh) When you're out of sight in my mind 'Cause sometimes I look in her eyes And that's where I find a glimpse of us And I try to fall for her touch But I'm thinking of the way it was Said, "I'm fine" and said, "I moved on" I'm only here passing time in her arms Hoping I'll find a glimpse of us Tell me he savors your glory Does he laugh the way I did? Is this a part of your story? One that I had never lived Maybe one day you'll feel lonely And in his eyes, you'll get a glimpse Maybe you'll start slippin' slowly and find me again When you're out of sight in my mind 'Cause sometimes I look in her eyes And that's where I find a glimpse of us And I try to fall for her touch But I'm thinking of the way it was Said, "I'm fine" and said, "I moved on" I'm only here passing time in her arms Hoping I'll find a glimpse of us Ooh-ooh-ooh Ooh-ooh-ooh 'Cause sometimes I look in her eyes And that's where I find a glimpse of us And I try to fall for her touch But I'm thinking of the way it was Said, "I'm fine" and said, "I moved on" I'm only here passing time in her arms Hoping I'll find a glimpse of us

I can’t even say they’re thugs, sad trash maybe. they remind me of some of the wayward young dudes in my area that hang out together. They don’t have any prospects, seldom employed or in a relationship for long. Broke but somehow there is always an open bottle around. They also somehow have a set of wheels which they use to show up to whatever gathering that’s going on, probably where they stole the booze. Probably burned bridges with their families or are in bad terms so they just hang around with the crew. You can see they’re struggling with demons and they gravitate toward each other to commiserate in their shared shack. together is probably the only way they can survive but also they hold each other down. They can’t afford anything themselves but together can scrounge enough for what they want. They all have problems with the law and at least one is always in jail for something, nothing long term.

I think I prefer listening to the song with the background noise of the music video. I love the sound of chaos with his melancholic voice. Although it's a big contrast, it says a lot about these heightened emotions. In the midst of destruction and violence, whether that'd be internal or external, there's a quiet sadness in the centre of it. And all these sounds played together strengthens these two extremes. They are born from each other and die within each other. It's the highs of all this frustration and anger, and the lows of sadness and yearning. They blend together so well to the point where you can't really untangle them and pull them apart. They just learn to co-exist with one another somehow and that's how you get broken people who are hurting.

yeh, i feel like with no background sound it's just kinda... empty. Like i think this is truly the way George wanted us to view the whole story, living chaotic with a purpose - a mean to cope or escape sth.

Cụm từ **"glimpse of us"** có nghĩa là **"thoáng nhìn thấy chúng ta"** hoặc **"thoáng nhìn về chúng ta"**, tùy thuộc vào ngữ cảnh. - **"Glimpse"**: Một cái nhìn thoáng qua, ngắn ngủi, không rõ ràng. - **"Of us"**: Liên quan đến "chúng ta" hoặc "chúng tôi".

One of the most well-crafted and creative music videos ever made. The quick cuts, the sadness, the escalating violence of the life the protagonist is living while trying to both grapple with and escape his feelings; it’s fucking brilliant. Amazing work as always, Joji.

This was possibly the most depressing song visually from Joji It shows the descent of a man into madness and complete self destruction, notice how the video accelerates, going faster and faster, indicating that when somebody starts falling into the darkness, they keep on falling faster and faster into the abyss and no matter how much hallucinogens or alcohol you consume, no matter how mad you drive yourself, it'll only make you fall faster...

I agree 100% this MV was so unique in it's nature and gave the song itself entirely new layers on top of the actual lyrics, showing us the absolute chaos that ensues in a man's life when he gives up on everything, it's beautifully melancholic

I agree. This version hit me like a truck, I think to some extent everyone can relate to the video. Because it shows all the fun crazy stupid stuff they do but on the inside they aren't happy and they struggling with emotional things. dont get me wrong, this is a beautifully written song. but if you relate to this whole song, please fully move on before you begin your next serious relationship. its not impossible i promise. in order to genuinely make room for new love in your heart you have to make space by getting rid of that person who currently sits there. otherwise you are wasting the others person time and energy:/ its unfair because the other person could be giving all their love yet they are underappreciated for something they cannot control - its normal to miss what you had. but different isnt bad, its just unfamiliar. to really appreciate that different is to accept what the past has gifted you with, and make genuine room to appreciate new happy experiences. trust me, you guys will be okay. just keep pushing through and keep trying

I'm currently in this situation. I feel like an asshole because she is always on my mind when I'm in a new relationship with other. Of course, I don't show my girl that I miss my ex and just like in this song even if she is 10 times better than her, I still miss her. My ex broke my heart real bad, and she still keeps breaking it but I can't stop thinking about her. I don't know how to let go...

This is quite possibly the strongest Joji song. This guy is struggling with being forgotten, with a sense of displacement, as well as seemingly worthlessness with no way to combat it. Violence seems to be the only outlet, thus leading to criminality and incarceration. Nothing hurts more than being forgotten by that someone who meant the world to you

I cried. I literally cried. I could feel the despair and the self loathing and the want to be better but unable to be. The sense of being lost, no control, no hope. And the memory of a better time. The thought that you'll never have that again but that you can't let that memory go. I could really FEEL this song, and that's rare.
