The quote at the end said it was from Rilke. That was the poet she said her fiancé always quoted.

Captain K and Freddie were actually a gay couple and therefore a target of the SS as much as any Jew and they went out loud and proud on their own terms.

Did you see that they put on pink triangles?
@jillk368
@jillk368 2 жыл бұрын
@@ronmaximilian6953 Those pink triangles got their start in death camps for homosexuals. I don't know if a lot of young people know that. The Nazis kept their camps organized by having different groups of people wear different patches. Jews wore yellow stars. Homosexuals wore pink triangles. Enemy POWs wore red triangles. They had different colored patches for Roma, for German political prisoners and so on. It's good that people can wear a pink triangle these days as a symbol of pride instead of as a symbol of unworthiness.

@ronmaximilian6953 2 жыл бұрын
@@jillk368 I'm well aware of this symbolism of triangles. Strictly speaking, the triangles were complicated because they could also include political divisions. One could be a homosexual or do and also be marked for left-wing political beliefs.

Hi Mike. Beautiful reaction. You brought up two interesting points that I wanted to help out by offering some historical perspective on. The girl in the wall being nonchalant and threatening upon being found by Jojo. Remember that this story is fictional tale set in an historical time. In real life during that time, Jews who were found hiding in people's homes would undoubtedly be begging for their lives, or possibly trying to escape, and in most cases would be killed on the spot or put on a train for transport to a death camp. The people hiding them would be dragged out, shot on site, hung or they themselves might be taken to a prison camp for Germans who were against the war effort. What a fucked up world. Your other point was really astute as well - - you noticed the German Shepherds in the street battle. And yes, it calls back to a funny line and moment earlier in the film. However, I think it's intended in a much darker, more serious manner; in that, by the end of the war, Germany and its military was basically devastated. Civilians were called to fight in their cities and towns, and that included young people, old people and anyone in between. Again, what a fucked up world. Thanks for reacting to this film. I appreciate your sensitivity, sense of humor and the overall quality of your commentaries (on this and other videos as well). All the best. -Jill

Always glad when this movie gets chosen. I always appreciate her aggression initially because she has seen and experienced her family, loved ones begging for help only to see them and those that helped them murdered. She doesn’t beg. She fights him with his own propaganda and fear. If she had done this any other way JoJo probably tells someone other than Yorkie, I like that she does not beg. I also appreciated your comment about, she looks like the girl in the picture, how different are they really, one died but would’ve been allowed to live, the other lives but has to hide from death minute by minute, thanks for posting this one! ✌️

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out-because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out-because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me-and there was no one left to speak for me. -Martin Niemöller This just gives some insight into how things ended up soooo crazy. The whole nazi movement did not start out full blown hysterical... it was a few small things that were seen as wrong, but left unopposed and basically ignored which in hindsight, ignorance is a form of support. Scary thing is, there are atrocities happening today that are going... unaddressed... Love your reaction bro, so similar to my own... when we see her shoes, I could not speak let alone describe what i just saw, I was slapped so hard. That's authentic

I cracked up when you said 'why is he so extra?' lol. I think you missed the whole Captain K and Freddie being a gay couple forced into the closet by the Nazi's storyline. Captain K appears to have an existing friendship with JoJo's mum Rosie. When we first see her slap Captain k and knee him in the groin, he accepts her reprimand without objection, despite her being a civilian. So I think we can assume that she knew or suspected that Captain K and Freddie were in a relationship (something they would have had to hide from the Nazi party) and that they knew or suspected she was helping the resistance. It's such a great movie and treads a very complicated and delicate line between comedy and drama very successfully in my book. Great reaction.

Jojo Rabbit is more similar in tone (happy & sad & heartfelt) to Taika's earlier films Boy and Hunt For The Wilderpeople. Recommend both.

Please consider watching Taika’s earlier work, eagle vs shark, BOY and hunt for the Wilderpeople. Even if it’s just In your spare time. Lots of people compare Taika to Wes but I think he’s got his own thing going on, the way he tackles themes like death/grief is special.

"Komm Gib Mir Deine Hand" has such different connotation when you see it combined with the nazi salute. So much to love about this movie, I'll just mention a couple: The portrayal of "Hitler" and how it shows a part of his subconscious. Like at 7:13, his subconscious heard the girl coming and hence reacted before he knew. Jojo, saying jews must like ugly things, mostly because he sees himself as ugly (he ask hitler right after) and wants her to like him. How from the very first scene we get told /yelled that Captain Klenzendorf isn't straight and hence doesn't agree with everything the Nazi's do/say. I mean: Captain Gay! (K)

Captain k is clearly in an intimate relationship with his assistant there, which was against the law in germany at the time, and a lot of other places. He and his partner are wearing pink triangles on their uniforms at the end, the symbol that homosexual germans had to wear in the concentration camps. You can see his most clearly in the scene where he saves jojo at the end. When the gestapo was searching jojo’s house he rushed there to help, he knew what happened to his mother, he had her bike. It had a flat tire which was his excuse for being out of breath when he got there. Pretty sure he had an idea of what she was up to, another reason why he warned jojo that anyone hiding a jewish person “would be killed, and a few other people for good measure”. I think it’s also why he tells jojo to stay home and not to go out.
