I know I am late to the game. JOKER has been on my to-watch list since it was released but due to life happening, I just couldn't find time to properly sit down and watch it until yesterday. And my mind was completely blown 1). by the phenomenal acting of Joaquin Phoenix (a very well deserved Oscar) and 2). The story telling, to be exact The message it wants to deliver. I have to say, I am not a DC fan, my first ever DC movie was Batman vs Superman and I kind of was traumatized by it, so I went into this movie, with really low expectation and oh boy!! I couldn't stop thinking about it, hence I made this edit. One of the best things that Joker managed to do to me is how I question my morality after watching this movie. I, of course want to sympathize with him because of how society treated him, because of what he went through, but on the other hand I know that he's a manic and whatever happened to him in the past didn't justify the bad deeds he did. This is not a typical villain story that obviously scream "okay~~ he's bad because of what people have put him through". I can clearly tell that JOKER kind of went that route, but what makes Joker outstanding among those movies is that "IT MAKES YOU STOP AND THINK". At the beginning of the movie, He started as someone who we can totally feel bad for, and that you can't wait for the story to take turn and watch him destroy those people or the society but when the story actually take turn, when he became THE JOKER, It gave you a sudden conflict feeling and make you question yourself "Is it right to side with him?" He is the protagonist and you were there with him when he was at the lowest part of his life, but what he did was beyond what a normal human being would do. So in a lot of way It messed up my mind. But that my friend, is what I called a good villain. He is not that typical "I have my reason for doing this " villain and I love that so much about JOKER. This piece of art proved that, society can totally create a very dangerous villain if we take this problem too lightly. One of the bitterest facts I learned after finish watching JOKER is a possibility that "Arthur can actually be helped, If people and the society care enough" and it hurts to see this man, whom i experienced his lowest point, whom I clearly understand where he came from, became what he's became.
JOKER will be one of my favorite villains from now on.
