Throughout nba history it was allways like that, but Russ and Jokic got a different set of rules for their own MVPs. The narrative machine for jokic is really strong, and it carries him in a wild manner. He’s had more than 40 sombor doubles in his career. He was on the bench with plenty of time to get the triple double but didn’t come back in cause he didn’t care. How is he a stat padder? And one more thing. You can also use this argument for Jokic against statpaddering. Jokic has 88 games in his career where he missed Triple Double for 1 assist or 1 rebound or 1 point. 88! With 100 Triple Double. Statpadder would get that 1 for sure. I remember when OKC played against the Nuggets and Russ needed one rebound for the TD and the Nuggets had time just for one shot. Jokic made an assist to the Garry Harris for 3 from the inbound play and Harris was Russ player but Russ left him initially because he was trying to get that rebound and that won the game for Denver. If Giannis or Embiid win the MVP -- Jokic is not going to lose any sleep over it. The accusation of 'stat padding' for triple doubles in more silliness from Perkins. Jokic has a 100 and I've seen him miss at least a dozen where he needed one more rebound or assist to get it, but leaves the game and never returns because Nuggets have a big lead. Some people have mentioned that he has missed out on another 25 to 50 triple doubles by FAILING to stat pad with one more rebound or assist. In fact, he just missed out on a triple double last night in the win over the Raptors because he only had 9 assists. The fact that the Nuggets are 26 and 0 when Jokic gets a triple double just shows these are not empty stats that don't help the Nuggets win. He certainly never tries to run up his scoring numbers unless the team needs him to score. He only took 8 shots against Toronto! The irony is that Giannis got caught stat padding for his 10th rebound the other night to get the triple double, and the league rescinded it.
