There shouldn’t be a “face” of the NBA. Too many great players in today’s league. Also, as a European, it should be about the team not an individual, if the league takes that stand, we may see more people toon in to watch the games, especially in the playoff and they won’t have to worry if Lebron or Steph or both are out from the playoffs that they’ll see a decline in viewership. They are at the crossroads and have an important business decision to make.

Nobody mentions Luka? Thats criminal. Dude is insanely talented and has a great personality from what I've seen (most of the time). And Haliburton?! JJ has some insane takes sometimes. Fans pay $$$$ just to watch them sit on the bench..My buddy saved money to watch lebron against the bucks in LA,but not a soul of Lebron there after he just broke the scoring record a few nights before that game. Giannis is not a league favorite since he resigned for the Bucks. Now that Dame went to the Bucks, the league is bound to teach everyone a lesson on how to avoid small market teams. Dame has already found out that he won't be getting to the FT line like he used to.

Hopefully one day the face of the league is a homegrown player from the U.S., but if not, Giannis, or Wembenyana (sp?), will be as good of a selection as anybody.

That Jokic warmup footage is crazy. Especially since you know he probably shot 60-70% that night, while going 2-4 from three with a couple moon shots. Edit - Giannis should be one of the faces, for everything you mentioned. However, the NBA appears to be really really adverse to having European players as their Face. Doncic, SGA and Wemby could be the face as well, obviously all three needing championships. That being said, Haliburton, Ant and Tatum need those championships as well.

I have always said since I started watching NBA when Magic played, then I watched Jordan, then Kobe and my favorite LeBron James..I am older than Magic. I always thought these three men were born stars not made. There is one other player I do hoping he would have been that fourth one and that Ja Marant had not got himself into trouble so much. Everyone makes mistakes but to repeat a charge was too much. The world cut him down so wrong just like they have done LeBron for 20 years..NBA fans and those judgement media stations that what they get if they never get another one after LeBron and Curry leaves.. The Lakers certainly will be out of money because ticket sales will be done..😂🤣

Giannis is not going to be the face of the league as he already won a chip but he still isn't as popular as other superstars. Non-basketball fans don't even know who he is. Unless he wins two more rings at least... which I think is doubtful, he doesn't have the background of massive success and lots of chips... he is just like a dirk with just one ring in a small market, not going to be a household name or the face of the league. Next face of the leauge is likely lukia or SAG... whoever wins multiple chips first. if neither of them make it, then wemby. Tatum will have a chance if boston wins multiple chips as well, but he will be more remembered in a paul pierce big three type fashion unless he really has insanely standpoint individual performances during boston's runs. edit: face of the league players are the names that even non-basketball fans recognize (Magic 5-rings, MJ 6-rings, Kobe 5-rings, Lebron 4-rings, Curry 4-rings) all reached those levels. Durant is really close, but not quite there. Duncan had 5 rings but small market and not embracing the spotlight so he never was the face of the league. You need to be a mega star with lots of winning and special highlight-reel-worthy individual play and captivating persona and a large market to hit that level. Giannis dunks and blocks and that's it, but not as dominate as Shaq in terms of brute force power or as skilled and pretty to watch as Hakeem's dream shake. Giannis is also in a small market with only one ring... I'd be surprised if he is even really remembered in 10 years (it is exactly like a Dirk situation, not going to hit national consciousness). He isn't even a real contender for any top 10-15 type lists, so no way he blows up to be the face of the NBA. All the recent faces of the NBA have cases strong enough to be listed in top 10-15 players of all time type deal.

We'll see.The bucks team looks promising with dame in the lineup. I'd love to see Luka one day as the next face of the nba , he's just putting up crazy numbers easily. Tatum is always present in the playoffs but it seems like they choke every post season.

I agree that the next face of the NBA has to come organically. This means that right now Nikola Jokic is the only candidate because there is a significant gap between him and the next person. If he doesn't want it, then NBA simply has no face. Similar to what happened in Spurs era. Tim Duncan didn't like the attention but he was still the face of the league.

@@hoopinncookin It's just sad that NBA media is pushing Anthony Edwards and Tatum as the next big thing. They are not and they will never reach that level. The only reason the NBA is doing this is that they are black American. To be the face of the game, you need to either be in the top 10 all time or show some potential to reach there. Beside LeBron and Steph, only Jokic has that. I'm sorry but being an average athletic superstar isn't good enough. TV ratings mean nothing for the question. The only criterion is greatness in basketball.

Why does it just need to be one? I see a lot of good faces out there. Lebron and Curry just need to get out of the way. Hard to be the face of the league when the media (channel included) goes out of there way to make Jokic look bad any way they can. Giannis will have a hard time staying on the floor for 7/8 years.
