We often get asked about husky training tips so here is a video of how to get calm sled dogs.
When you see a dog team that somebody handles with control there lay a ton of hard work behind. Before you have a husky team that you can trust and that is listening to you there is lots of hours of training behind. Sled dog training is both inspiring, fun but also super frustrating sometimes. The work behind having calm huskies is a never-ending story. You have to train this over and over again.
In this Siberian Husky video, we bring you along behind the scenes during a part of this work. We will explain and show you how we train our huskies BUT it’s important to remember that when you work with husky sled dogs and all other animals you need to know that they are different individuals and all have different personalities. So, all methods don’t work for everyone just as with humans.
Matti have experience of Siberian husky working dogs and training huskies since 1984 and Stina since 2004.

@@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA Yes. I offer hiking tours with my Huskies and all my guest who come to me are surprised that the dogs are so calm and friendly because they expected barking and loud dogs. But when my guests come they do not hear any noise of the dogs. You really understand how to work in the right way with sled dogs! By the way. My lead dog's name is also Gandalf and it's also a "craz" dog. 😂 It's a son of one of your dogs (Ätti) 😉 Mario

Super interesting movie! Also... that coffee looks delicious! I really like your mentality with the dogs, and the trail and the journey. I'm curious, what kind of harness do you use / recommend? I've planned on training my riesenschnauzer for both sledding (well, not like yours but for training/fun) but also for strength (pull heavy loads). Is there any brand or similar that you'd recommend for activities like that? Btw - super cool outro! Really liked this movie (so did our dog but he was too tired to watch it all). Thank you! Simon

Thanks! 😀 We use Troll harness but we have siberians and it's possible that you will finde something better for your Risen... I Don know if this is the best for your dog. It's difficult to find the right harness. 😀 You should listen to someone who have risen or someone who sell different brands. By the way... Risen are really good touring dogs! Why do the dogs put their tails between their legs when u cuddle them?
@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA
@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA 3 жыл бұрын
Siberian Huskies are very 'signal strong' as we say in Sweden. If I raise my voice, growling little bit or showing my teeth they respond on this signals. I don't need to scream or talk loud to them. They also show signals very strong and could be reserved. If you read the standard for Siberian Huskies they should be little bit reserved to other people. ...and to the tail... In this case they feel that they är a kind of polite if they show that they are not trying to take 'my position as the leader'. The way they show this is through dog language. Putting the tail between the legs is a way of showing that they are lower and just want contact. And...different dogs are different. Dogs like Homer... he is sooooo playful and he does not really put his trail like that if it's not a special situation. He just want some rock'n roll... Other dogs like Xtreme is very often standing with his ears flipped backwards and the tail low and wagging with small and fast movements just to show that he is totally not interested in the leader position. He just want contact. Maybe I should show the difference in a video and talk about this. But it's a supercool question from you because you can see the same behaviour with dogs that have been a kind of treated hard. I will be back with more content about this... What's important is that our dogs are taking care of in a good way and they just want to cuddle. 😀 /Matti

Why not wear a neck line? And what are its benefits?
@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA
@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA Жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. 1. I’m lazy and then I’m saving one moment of work. ;-) 2. Our fall training goes through water holes, rocks and difficult terrain. Without neckline the dogs are more free and that’s safer for them. They can slow down little bit or step to the side etc. I also heard from other mushers that they get less injuries on the dogs. But if you want to start with this you need to practice. In the beginning it’s messy… 3. I can see exactly which dog tha WANT to work. With neckline they get ‘forced’ into the team. Without they need to really want to be there. This is a few of my ideas. There is off course situations when I want neckline. It’s never one solution that is the one and only. :-) /Matti
