- I am from Germany, born and raised. A couple of years ago I relocated to Australia and been living there ever since.
Can you understand Urdu and Hindi?
- I sadly can’t understand both languages fully, neither can I speak them. However I am able to understand a few words and certain phrases.
Why haven’t you reacted to my recommendation yet?
- Every day I receive countless recommendations from you guys, which I am grateful for. I am trying to read all the comments but it does happen that I miss some out. The main factor is probably my working schedule which doesn’t allow me to film videos daily. Most weeks I can only find a couple of hours in the afternoon to film 2-3 videos. Of course I’d love to film more and film all of your recommendations, however I’m trying to stick with 1 or 2 uploaded videos a week. Quality over quantity.

The reason they keep their initial actions cryptic are because there is a Behind the Scenes video of each song, which is released after the song. And there, they give you each and every detail of how the song came about. Do check out the BTS of this song. They've actually built an entire neighborhood, just for this song. Quite stunning, really.

Don't worry about your initial reaction. There have been a few people who were initially underwhelmed by the song. But, this song grows on you, the more you listen to it, understand the underlying message and the opposing thoughts of pessimism and optimism. Once you watch the BTS of the song, you'll love it even more. BTW, no one in their right mind could ever hate a beautiful soul like you.

This song is symbolic of inner conflicting thoughts and feelings. People in song are people around us and their actions are repeating their own stories in world. Old lady with cat, book seller putting books in bag because no one is reading them or using them due to social media and many more details in that video. The English translation "AT PLACES" is so literal that it is dictionary like and doesn't even begin to capture what they are trying to say. The lyrics have a lot of power here that may not be quite conveyed but thank you for your beautiful reaction! 🙏🙏😸

In a way I feel bad for people who can’t understand the sheer poetry of such songs because of the language barrier but I’ve seen other reactors who’ve understood the depth of the lyrics, via the translation, break down. Do watch the Magical Journey of this song. It is absolutely beautiful and emotional. And the story behind how this song came together is magical. I find this song to be a roller coaster of emotions. No worries if you don't like this song but when you appreciate the next song we would know that appreciation is genuine and there is nothing fake to get more views. As for your observation with regards to description/ brief of the song. Coke Studio has stepped up their game. You would find the everything you wanna know about the song in BTS where detailed description is provided in addition to the visual documentary so that viewers can understand the perspective and experience the birth of the song. Although there has been a shift towards placing music first. In our part of the world, we primarily make songs. Its not music industry its songs industry. the music has a supporting role it comes in 4th or 5th position. Its about the lyrics, singers voice, there vocal control, their style and then music. My first reaction was underwhelming too especially when it followed Aayi aayi but 2nd listen to 1000th listen (lol) it had so many layers. The music isn’t all the same. The flutist did amazing on this song. The positioning of the singers, the deeper meaning of their lyrics. It’s a very poetic song. A conversation between an optimist and a pessimist.

Truly agree with your initial reaction. Almost all songs of CS Pakistan does not include a description, does not provide cultural insights, and people please understand the difference between culture and languages. Cultural insights talk gives a window of traditions, customs, rituals, along with giving platform to rural artist. Apart from Kana Yari and recent Ayi Ayi, CS Pakistan has been Punjabi Heavy, which is extremely unfair to all other demographics in Pakistan. Sure because of the Punjabi language being spoken by a large population and due to it's overlap in sentence structure and vocabulary with Hindi/Urdu, gives it a larger audience that will translate into viewership, however these songs lack substance. We often hear repetitive emotions of love loss, romanticism, with a trickle of mysticism here and there. Listeners have been saturated with Punjabi culture, specially India that they are walking away from it. It's the same three four words in loop, Mahive, Mohabbat, Soniya, Bhangra, Balle balle, has exhausted music enthusiasts. CS Pakistan need to provide actual insights into the plethora of culture and customs than Punjabi factory. Great review, this song is riding the wave of being the first Punjabi song this season of CS hence the overwhelming love. If you listen closely, it is monotonous with heavy use of electronic voice modulators. The grand set and lyrics are the highlights.

I dont expect westerners to connect with this song because (1) there’s a unique linguistic element that evokes emotion which is simply not possible via subtitles (2) western folks dont understand Pakistani “mohallas” as shown in this video and the subtle cultural nuances. So they can only base their opinion on pure musicality and visuals which sometimes simply isn’t enough to convey the nuances. This song is way beyond musicality and sound - it is way beyond simple lyrical translation too - this one is way too deep and its completely expected that some people by no fault of their own miss the depth of emotion this song evoked - this one can’t be assessed “scientifically” for lack of a better term

NAFRAT DI KOI EXPIRY HONI CHAHIYE DI (Hate should have an expiration date) This song is so, so painfully fantabulous, and spitting facts. Your confusion with the overall song is very much understandable, this is purely a conversation between a pessimist and an optimist who are portraying 2 contrasting views of their life experiences and what this world is all about. This world is surely getting crazier, more selfish, and more materialistic day by day, money has certainly become the religion and a barometer to judge a person. In my view, this creation by Xulfi and his team is PLATINUM and will always stay this way because every word of this song is so damn true and proven right today and will be proven right in the future also. I also think the music was deliberately toned down for the vocals to standout because of the powerful lyrics of the entire song. Star Shah and Zeeshan Ali's vocals have been so authentic and genuine to the soul of the song. See you in the next one, take care, cheers!

@Jola my fav and the most aesthetic scene in the whole video was " the light cast over the flutist in terms of Cinematography and the style tone and texture of the Flute in terms of Soundscapes was jussssssst fabulous.. what was Your fav frame of the whole video? m a Graphic Designer so naturally i carefully observe those minor visual effects. I love this question! I loved the frame of Zeeshan Ali with the percussionist Veeru Shan in the background and then it pans to the elderly lady with the cat in her arms (I love cats hence why I found this frame extra wholesome). Now that I’ve rewatched it few times I noticed that Veerus instrument is the first “traditional” instrument appearing in the video, at the same time when Zeeshans part (a more traditional part) starts.

But m still stuck on the flutist. it kinda adds more drama to the actual essence of the song message.he looks like he is standing at a lonely place in the open under black clouds or black sky and the moon showers upon him its light. The video portrays thoughts of someone who's a pessimist (Star Shah) and someone else who's an optimist (Zeeshan Ali). At 2AM we see while the pessimist sings and his thoughts (how the world is deceitful) materialise that everyone is alone. Be it the cat behind him, a tired professional sleeping on his recliner, a bookshop owner packing up, a streetvendor sleeping on his cart and a person dancing inside their house. Whereas when the optimist is pouring his thoughts out and saying how love is everywhere and in everything - he asks the question 'if this is not love then what else is?' which he is asking the pessimist basically. Amidst this, visuals of an old aunty cuddling with her cat, an old couple, an aunty ironing maybe her son's clothes, a man braiding his wife's hair, a daughter massaging her mother's legs. All of this put together is really beautiful, which I couldn't get either on the first play. You kinda hit the nail on its head, despite a lot of things being lost in translation.

Flawless Reaction.. If u freeze the video at the Book shop , above the door is a writing in urdu " Dukaan baraye Firokht " means "The Shop is for sale now " .. That Hittttttttttttttttttt me hard and deep .. this frame meant " The Uncle was packing up and preparing a farewell to his life long sweet books Collection .. This reflects that the new Generation gave up on books.. Books are replaced by internet chatting and other mobile apps. ofcourse turning a book page is also kinda " love " which is no more these days ... and the song also truly highlighted ... in the modern era u hardly see a couple or lovers deeply in love . like Romeo And Juliet (Western) .. Coke Studio is obviously catering to large global audience. Every song cannot be everything for everyone, and should not be expected to be so. It is kind of like going to a really good restaurant and expecting to like everything on the menu. I for one will never like an egg plant dish and it is what it is, and it’s likely that you will not like rap, R&B, etc., nor do you understand it.

coke studio has gone shit since zulfi took over. Rogail Hayat was the real guy . coke studio was popular because of classical songs, e,g from Rahat Fateh Ali Kham, etc. Zulfi has made it a psedo pop which is real sad. Its like Asim Munir in coke studio!!

Pakistani music isn’t just Rahat Fateh Ali. Pop has been a part of the Pakistani music scene for decades. We all love our established superstars but what I’ve seen so far is that talent is everywhere in Pakistan, it is waiting for an opportunity to be recognized and showcased on the world stage. What I’ve seen are people who don’t even speak our language resonating with the voices and emotions from these artists, some of whom, I’m sure, will be the superstars of the future. The songs are always replete with meaning, emotion, and cultural symbols. Look at how Aayi Aayi has resonated with Sindhis all over the world, particularly those who left Sindh after partition. What is about if not about forming bridges and connections.
