When Jolie came to the US she was broke, the wars, economic turmoil in Hungary broke the Gabor family. Jolie borrowed some money from Zsa Zsa/Eva and started her Jewelery Business which turned into a huge success and she reestablished herself financially. Read her autobio sometime, very interesting read

@cmcb...that "autobiography" written by cindy adams revealed jolie to be an awful person. Her reaction to seeing the man who got her and her three daughters out of Europe, and a death camp, was "what does he want". An awful human being.

@zybotsue...who would be the panelists? These were America's elite...Bennett Cerf, the founder of Random House publishing house, Arlene Francis, an actress and hostess of a daily radio show, interviewing authors and doctors and notable people from all professions; her husband was a Broadway actor AND producer. And Dorothy Kilgallen, the most important news reporter in America; she wrote a column AND news reports for the Hearst papers across America. There could never be as celebrated panel on a Sunday night again. Oh, John Daly was a well regarded TV and radio news reporter for ABC broadcasting. Such a group could never be reproduced today.

I heard about her health. But about the money issue... just saw on BBC(recently) that she has raised an action against him, through the Goldstein Law Office and won rights about the money, after proving what Madoff did. I sincerely wish her the best. Very much admire the Gabors. They were a very emblematic family to the United States and the World, at those days. So sad they've had sad ends.

I'd use emblematic to express the image they've built on money, success and fame raised from nothing, since their family had poor origins back in Hungary. Gabors raised an image of distinction and elegance, becoming therefore emblematic to many people. At least in Hungary and Switzerland, countries I've lived, they're very famous and well respected. But yeah, they're not perfect, surely. Who is... ;)

Heya! Well, my mother bought a south african book about the Gabors, written in English, when we did live in S.Africa. I remember having read it. Unfortunately we lost the book during our moving to Japan, the country I lived foward. The title is "The Gabors" and it tells their whole story, from 1850 until 1998(when it was written). Their origns, their religion, everything. :) Francesca is rich and handsome. But as much as her mother.

The problem is that not only Zsa Zsa must have imposed an action against Madoff, many other well advised rich people must have done so. So, when the courts order the auction of Madoff's assets, there will not be money enough to return to all people that were fooled. Probably Madoff's inocent employees will get their wages first and then I don't know in what order other people will be paid. Why do you say the Gabors were a very emblematic family to the US and the world?! Famous, yes...

DerAdventurer, don't be that sure about the Gabors poor Hungarian background. Remember that still in Hungary one of the girls married a doctor (who later became Greta Garbo's doctor in America), the other a diplomat and Zsa Zsa embraced Burhan Asaf Belge, an important figure in the development of 20th-century Turkey. So, the Gabors weren't exactly regular people. I, for one, would say they raised an image of glamour and beauty, rather than elegance and distinction. They married too many times.
