What is Jolly Phonics?
Jolly Phonics is a synthetic phonics scheme that teaches children the alphabetic code of English. Children are taught 42 letter sounds, how to blend them to read words, and how to cope with the first few irregular keywords. At this point the children can attempt to read books for themselves.
Learning the 42 Letter Sounds
The 42 letter sounds are covered by these general fiction readers in 7 sets, each of which focuses on a different set. There are a few more challenging words in the last batch of readers. These books can be presented to kids as each sound grouping is taught.
Using the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh sets of letter sounds, Set 7 includes decodable regular words:
