"Low-hanging branches." The "hanging" is redundant and unnecessary. Every branch, whether high or low, is always hanging. 'Tis the nature of branches to hang. I would advise simply saying "low branches". Or low ceiling. Now, "low-hanging fruit" is a different story. The compound adjective in that case provides context for the metaphor to be easily understood. Of course, a branch that has fallen to the ground is not hanging anymore, and that's when an adjective can be helpful as well. Or a branch blowing in the wind ("swaying"). But if the branch is still attached to the tree and undisturbed, we know it's hanging, implicitly. I do apologize for this kind of absurd, editorial critique, but every time Madison says "low-hanging branches", I feel like I want to blow my brains out. Besides that one phrase, the commentary is excellent. Thank you.

The 'splaining is bad enough in general but it's even worse because you're just flat wrong. There are tons of different kinds of branches, and they do not all "hang." No one would say a thick branch that's running at an upward angle is "hanging," but it's still a branch. That's the entire meaning of the verb form of "branch"...it does not in any way imply "hanging." Chill.
