The Friends of Mr. Cairo was one of the earliest cds I recall buying. I loved the title song and it made me recall those wonderful days at the local cinema---a rundown last run theater but the magic was not diminished. I spent a great portion of my youth in the seventies watching all types of movies. The song's nostalgia stings me in nice but sad way.

My father was telling me the other day how he hasn't heard this song for almost 20 years! "Father love do you work, do you work for Mother? Chances could call and accept that, be no other. Science as it might, disappear correspond with colour. Chance is the fruit, will outlive, what is now the brother." Favourite part!

Wow! I was listening to "Asia" and read that some of the group are from "Yes". So I wondered what the singers name was. I find out, and type Jon's name in. When I see this song, I'm thinking, that's famiiar. OMG. I haven't heard this for years. Somewhere, I have this on a tape when I recorded them on a crappy Radio Shack cassette recorder and mom or dad would walk in half way through. I'll have to go through my dusty tapes and LP's and crank some real music. Thanks for posting.

This is one of those great songs that got me into the whole yes thing and so on when I was growing up during the early 80s.There was other very moving songs on that album that which has inspired me to sing them all until I knew of all of the lyrics off by heart. Very amazing indeed.

Even as abbreviated as this version is, it's long for a music video. Not only am I surprised they made a video for this song, I'm stunned that it was ever aired. Unfortunately the director took a very literalist approach to the lyrics, which rarely works well even when the material is far less poetic. Maybe it's for the best that the second half wasn't filmed.

I remember being introduced to this album (album is same title) by a friend and was instantly captivated. I was a Yes fan anyway and I was enthralled by Jon's collabration with Vangelis. I wonder if Jon or Vangelis was a big Film Noir fan, or at least a fan of the movie "The Maltese Falcon".

I wasn't sure what you meant, but now I see. The credits are to Jon Anderson. Vangelis is left off! Shame. There's no doubt, the album was created and credited to Jon and Vangelis.
