@@PrimeDirective101You've got to know about the non album tracks! They are really great. One left off of Page Of Life titled Sing With Your Eyes. And the B side of a 12" single titled Song Is. Both are absolutely gorgeous. Song Is is a B side of a 7" single that has a different mix of And When The Night Comes. Both the 12" and the 7" are British singles. You also have Jon playing harp for 12 minutes on Filaments Roses from Opera Savage. I know these tracks are going to make your month if you haven't heard them before.

His gift is a gift for us all. The positive vibes oozing off of this thing are very welcome but at the same time it's all so bittersweet for me. Once upon a dream indeed. I heard five songs of this album, and I dare to say that it is a masterpiece. One of the best albums of 2024, without a doubt. It's hard to believe that Anderson is still singing with that quality at 80 years old. And the musicians who accompany him also have a great performance. All very talented. Jon has achieved a splendid album very similar to the Yes style of the early 70's. Truly spectacular.

'Olias' is the the best 'Jon Anderson' album while 'True' is the best 'Yes' album in decades. 'Olias' embodies the sound that has been more of a hallmark of Jon's solo material (especially with Vangelis). But Jon has never made a solo album as Yes-like as 'True' and it puts Steve Howe's band to shame. 'Mirror to the Sky' is the best post-Anderson Yes album but it's not on the same planet as 'True.' I've been taking the "Pepsi Challenge" and listening to 'True' and 'Mirror' tracks side by side (like 'Counties and Countries' vs 'All Connected') and Jon's tracks come out ahead (I give the album a 9.25/10). I'll take Jon's amazing vocals over Steve Howe's lead singing any day. I'm just so happy to finally have some real Yes music!
@TheProgCorner19 күн бұрын
True is a fantastic album. And I really liked Mirror To The Sky as well. So I think we are REALLY lucky and BLESSED to have some terrific music coming from both Steve and Jon. I would prefer if they would work together but if this is what we get with them apart…

It just wasn't working anymore, like a married couple who just have gone down separate paths. Don't blame either side. Just go with it, like I do. Hey Scot! Let's start with the cover. People say Roger should of done the cover. How many of Jon's solo albums did Dean do? If you look at all of Jon's albums how many have his picture on it? Many. So why not TRUE? Doesn't matter, it's what's inside that matters! Remember, this is not a YES album, it's a Jon and The Band Geeks album. Moving on to the music. I disagree with you Scot about Jon's voice on certain tracks. I think he sounds incredible. Remember he is turning 80 soon. I know 80 year olds that can't even talk let alone sing! Jon sounds great! The musicianship on TRUE is absolutely stellar! These guys are SO good it makes my head spin! Just incredible. Overall I love TRUE and everything about it! Scot you gave it an 8.5 which i disagree with. How can you compare TRUE to an album that Jon had nothing to do with? Once again, TRUE is not a YES album. Ok, I'm done. My hot take is that Richie Castellano is channeling Chris Squire more than Billy Sherwood does. I mean, they're definitely more consciously a Yes cover band than current Yes are, whereas current Yes are trying to do their own thing. And I enjoy "Mirror To The Sky" a lot. I guess it's one of those situations where we should be happy there are two concerns making this kind of music from the former Yes.

My main issue with the cover is that Jon is grabbing the microphone isolation shock absorber cage around the mic! That is a no-no in the recording studio. It is used to prevent any sort of vibration from transferring to the microphone recording. As soon as grab it, the vibrations and noise from your hands end up on the recording. The sunglasses also need to come off.

Do have an issue with Jons status with the band. No doubt sounds like he quit in 04, however a tour was scheduled in 08,i was going to get tickets to the August 8 show in Atlanta. The 40th anniversary of first ever show under the YES name. Vh1 was promoting the tour, with Oliver on keys. Then Jon became very ill, that tour was scrubbed. Chris found Beniot on you tube, and a new tour was commenced. Saw the band at HOB In Myrtle Beach in early decemeber. It was billed as SQUIRE , HOWE WHITE of YES" IN THE PRESENT" Tour. At that show Chirs did introduce Beniot and Oliver as two new members of fhe band. All this said, either Jon was to be a Hired singer, or had rejoined the Band with approval of members and management, but he was back. So he quit in 04, but 08, he did not quit, which means he was with rhe band when they moved on.

"Distant Thunder" which became "Children of Light" was Jon experimenting with rap. It's be harder to name the Genres he hasn't dabbled in!

Fly from Here would be the last over 15 minute epic, I believe. I actually don't mind the picture, I think it's really good... it's that "True", specifically the font that's the real problem.

I never liked any of the Yes albums or Jon’s solo work on the first listen. The songs I disliked the most ended up being my favorites, Close To the Edge being a good example. After my first listen of True, the only song I liked right off was Thank God. Know in the end I am going to love this album. By the way, Jon was using his “growl” voice on purpose. Check out the KZbin video of the Band Geeks discussing the making of this album.

The problem is that they quote style from the actual musicians who created the YES sound.

True but Anderson is a (perhaps the) author of that sound. So I’m kinda okay with that.

Apart from the cover its amazing Scot. Maybe a bit controversial but this album appeals more to TRUE Yes fans not the ones who got into the band in the 90s no names mentioned 😂😂😂😂

I have connections on the inside. My sources are reliable. Steve will never confirm this publicly as neither Alan nor Chris wanted to air Yes’ dirty laundry. That’s my job!!!!

I suspect Jon personally insisted on using that cover. Whenever he makes artistic decisions without the input of the great artists around him, the results are pretty cheesy.

I guess expecting these boys to produce music equal to their 70s peak is like folks thinking Dylan's new stuff compares to Blood on the Tracks....these guys are still producing great music....but nowhere near being Close to the Edge!

@@TheProgCorner I think "Horizon" is their masterpiece. And at 22:55, it is epic in scope. I'll wager not many J&V fans will even _know_ about that one. They always talk about "I'll Find My Way Home", "State of Independence", "The Friends of Mr Cairo" or "I Hear You Now".

I love Yes and Jon but besides the first few tracks on this where they actually rock a bit, the rest is a bit of a preachy drone where Jon's voice starts to grate on me.....but I did just listen to 90 second samples but TBH they didn't make me want to rush out and buy this. As for the cover, it looks like a cheap bootleg.

Gotta agree and that album cover just doesn't cut it.... fine if its some local church singer thing but who holds a condenser like that? Esp. with a shock mount on? Obviously the man knows how to work the mic for real so why pose? Hope my upcoming album cover comes across better because throwing stones and glass houses but yeah, atrocious. Anderson IS a legend for a reason though. Infinite respect and who can sing that high at his age?.. wow.

What's up with this beef over the cover art? It's so neutral that I don't find it worth being upset by. It's for those who need to know that Jon is a cool singer even at 80. That's all! Anyway, this album is extremely better than that boring MIRROR thing, and I would never go to hear & see Davison Live. 😢
@TheProgCorner11 күн бұрын
People definitely were in a tizzy about the artwork and I get it, the album is so good that it really is a shame that the same attention to EXCELLENCE wasn’t applied to that area. I think Yes fans are very sensitive to album covers. Myself included. Can you blame us?

@TheProgCorner As a lifelong Graphic Designer / Artist / Photographer there's no doubt, it should have lived up to the album. I've met daughter Deborah several times socially, and she's a great photographer and recent documentary filmmaker, so I did expect more from her.

In your recent live stream someone said they were going to see Deep Purple and Yes at a concert...er...no, actually they are not. They are going to see The Steve Howe Band, i.e. Mr Howe backed a bunch of musicians not otherwise associated or related to Yes and The Ian Paice Band with Mr Paice supported by a similar bunch of musicians. The music may well be decent enough but both bands have a bloody nerve capitalising on those names. There. That's my grumpy rant over. Actually, no, it isn't. For a group to justify being called Yes, Ian Anderson has to be the vocalist. It's a scientific fact and anyone who disagrees with me is simply wrong. So there...any why aren't you wearing your King Charles III hat? Moan whine whinge grumble etc. Oh yes, most importantly: congratulations on now reaching 11,000+ subscribers!

Really, you can't compare "Olias" with that album. I'd compare it with an Yes album, and really, it's far more better than all that was done without Jon Anderson (Fly from here, Heaven & earth (aaargh!), The Quest, Mirror to the sky). The main thing, the quality of the melodies, they are catchy, they move, and the songwriting is dense. With Mirror to the sky, the melodies are often awful, directionless
