I was listening to this song in my family room once, and my mom heard it and asked what it was because she really liked it. I then heard her listen to it every morning in the bathroom while she was getting ready for work and I was getting ready for school. It made me really happy that she like Jon and listened to him every day. Whenever I played it, she wouldn’t stop talking about how much she liked it. She passed away at 42 last year, and it kills me to listen to this song now. She was the most amazing, caring woman on this planet. We had thousands show up to her funeral because of how influential she was. I cry every time I listen to this song. I miss her so much and this song makes me feel like she’s still here with me. I love you mom and I love you Jon ❤️

I could be way off on this, but this is how I viewed the music video. He obviously is growing up throughout the short, but during each phase a new "monster" threatens to stifle his creativity. First there is lust/fame, then greed, then fear/self-doubt. Near the end he feels that there's no way to avoid these "monsters" and that he's trapped. However during the "lay with me, conversate with me" portion of the song he realizes that he's not the only one who wants him to continue blossoming as an artist, his family, friends, and fans are all there with their own separate candle, hanging out with him, talking to him, letting him know what he means to them, and that none of them will let his soul drown in Luxury. This is just my personal take on the song though. Absolutely loved the video and look forward to seeing his progression from here.

Thanks for this, I knew the first monster made sense but the second and 3rd I was confused as to what they represented but this made it very well clear.

I would also add that in the beginning when he step out of the door, the red light represents his ambitions and expectations of the music world and how it became a new passion in his life, and then when he steps out into darkness he is uncertain of his future and how to navigate his future career. He feels like he's alone and trying to succeed in music on his own without any guiding light except his own. And then near the end, the lights represent his fans and supporters who provide him with a sense of certainty and purpose which, in turn, lights up the uncertainty surrounding him.

yeah Jon said on twitter: "GOD GIVES US A LIGHT FROM CHILDHOOD! PEOPLE WILL TRY TO STEAL AND EXTINGUISH THAT LIGHT! HOLD ON TO THAT LIGHT!" I can't wait for the "Making Of" for this song so we can really get what is in his mind for this song and exactly what the video means/represents.

"The story is about Jon's dream of becoming famous since a little kid, he is now following his dreams and is slowly becoming a lot more famous, and there are things that come with fame and luxury, such as Woman (like the ones chasing after him in the video) Greed/Jealousy (Which represents the green goblins in the video that he's running from, (and the spider which represents all his fears and his haters that he's trying to overcome) The video ends with powerful singing by Mae when he is surrounded by his loyal fans, friends and family that he asks to help him make sure he doesnt drown in things like luxury, fame, hate and etc etc, which concludes the message of the song. Hope I helped! " - not my words

He's running from the demons that come with living in luxury. This song is a cry for help, Jon is running from the devil but the devil is chasing him for his talents. Jon is just a man, looking for a way out and is growing and maturing, praying to God this wealthy lifestyle doesn't consume him. God bless you Jon, hang in there man. Jesus loves you.

What do you guys think that each monster represents? My guess: 1. Crazed woman: Represents the horde of women that want to be a part of Jon's life and are crazy for it. They constantly throw themselves at him but also have detrimental motives. 2. The Green Goblin: Representation of Jealousy. "Beware my lord of jealousy, for tis the green eyed monster that doth mock the meat it feeds on." (Othello, Shakespeare). "Money the jealous type I always knew it" 3. The spider could represent a general evil that is sneaky like a spider and can trap you in its web, then consume you. This could be a representation the hidden evil that exists in the world mainly through temptation that distracts you from your goals. All of these are elements (luxuries) that can hold someone back from achieving success. Jon is asking for help. He want people to pray that he doesn't drown in these luxuries. He could be speaking to the fans and asking us for our help as he travels to the top "My plane is boarding soon and it's so plain to see, that one can lose his way so could you pray with me, that I don't lose my soul in Luxury." In the second verse I believe he is writing as if he is a fan speaking to Jon. Stating that if Jon falls of track and is consumed by the luxuries then we as fans will be his Adderall in helping him get focused and back on track. The basketball reference relates to his playing basketball with the fans which I believe he does from time to time. There are other elements in the song that I didn't touch on but these were the ones that stuck out most to me.

I know there is a real basis of the song but I think one angle of it is, ignoring the music and just focusing on the video is that, maybe the candle's flame is sanity and all the monsters are problems in life and his main goal is to keep the flame, therefore, keeping his sanity. Just a thought on the song.
@leoouellette88
@leoouellette88 5 жыл бұрын
Mr. Pineapples I feel like this is a really good analysis!! The only problem that I have with it is that I think that instead of the flame being his sanity, I think it’s his passion for music and creating. He’s trying to keep his passion, his “flame” if you will, but all of these distractions and complications come up as he progresses through his life/ career. I think that each of the “monsters” is symbolic of a problem that he’s faced in his career that took a toll on his desire to create

This song perfectly demonstrates a Christian’s struggle with sin. The lamp/candle being our faith; the light we give off that not only provides hope bur gives the enemy a target to aim at. As we are chased by our sins, sometimes we drop the candle, sometimes it seems like we’re trapped. But as the Bible says “You will not be tempted beyond what you can bear”, and with faith, strength, and hope, we grow into stronger individuals founded in Christ. As the music video starts, we are weak, ill-equipped to deal with our sinful nature and the threatening existence that permeates life. But as we grow older, we grow surer. Our legs are used to running, our faith is strong, we struggle a little less in leaning on God, and in the end we find ourselves surrounded by those whose candles also did not die out. I watch this video to remind myself that sins are visible and my mission is much clearer than sometimes it seems. Keep the faith, stay strong, don’t lose hope, and have confidence that God will deliver you in the face of any and all opposition. Thank you Jon, this is my favorite song and favorite music video. It has impacted me and strengthened me at my weakest and when I needed it most. You’re doing God’s work!

What the visuals of the song are demonstrating is Jon Bellions constant struggle to maintain his spiritual focus before he gets lost in the luxuries of the world, the candle represents his spiritual side as he fights to keep it lit keeping it away from the demons, but most importantly he must keep the candle lit (focusing on spiritually) in order to see the demons in the first place. It’s a constant battle my friends, God Bless all of you 🙏🏻❤️

I feel like this is song is a little kid growing up. But over the years he has problems, demons that follow him throughout his life. He runs from hims demons some bigger some smaller. Some from the beginning and some from the end. so he doesn't have to confront them. But in the end he confronts them all. And he ends up realizing he's not alone and he feels at peace with himself and others.

The animation is not the best, the song is good though. Times you can see the animation faltering is when a character goes from one animation streight to another, without really doing anything. This is shown in the start when the kids trips over something but then immediately stands up to the door.

Something I love about JB besides everything that he is, his incredible talent, his brains and genuine personality is the fact that he shared with the world how he makes his music. I can’t appreciate that more ❤. I know he would’ve been as popular as Post Malone if not more because his music is just superb! This video is incredible the musical work he put into it to make it all prefect as usual, and this lady with her angelical voice, the way they worked together, the musicians collaborating, everything about Jon is so special. I wish we saw more of his great fun talent! ❤

I understood the visuals in another way. To me the light is the energy he feels inside of himself. Call it God, music or inspiration. Either way this light is what draws negative types towards him as he progresses. He faces different facets of these negative characters throughout his journey with this light. They all want the light, to me the woman represent women who want to take advantage of him but are evil inside. The goblin types represented other artists and people who were jealous of him and wanted to bring him down. The spider was the business label execs who want to take advantage of him/pimp him. In the end he reaches a point where he finds other lights and connects with them. A metaphor for how he connects with us all whenever he's on the stage. As fans of his music, we all must have a light inside of us that we can shine too.

That's interesting. What's even more: in the beginning, when he is a child, it shows his shelves. On his shelves he has a toy representing this "goblin" figure. Which suggests he looked up to these artists who drowned in this luxury. I suppose he tried to be like them, but as he grew wiser, he realized the truth behind these people who inspired him. Which explains why he wrote the entire song!

The thing I love most about Jon's music is that I can carry different songs through different parts of my life. Stupid deep was exactly what I needed to hear for years and now I've been carrying luxury with me for this past year. "Please don't let my soul drown in luxury" I don't think luxury has to be associated with money; for me its anything that pulls me away from real connection in my life. I love the moment in this video where Jon is looking around at all the lights being held up with his. And Audra's voice gives me chills every time.

I'm not even into pop or anything like that, but Jon Bellion is different. He makes his songs meaningful, beautiful, unique. He is a man who writes about emotions and not just love songs. He can create the perfect melodies and combinations of instruments. I really think this person deserves more recognition. He combines different genres at times, which is what a like about an artist

Oh and... Hi I'm rick harrison and this is my pawn shop. I work here with my old man, and my son , big hoss. Everything in here has a story, and a price. If there is one thing I've learned after twenty-three years, you never know what is going to come through that door.
