@JonPower1239 ай бұрын
@@SashaArsic I did not see any mockery, I saw a man who attempted to educate the masses in as unbias a way as possible by using humor to entertain people while educating them. This segment combined with the subsequent interview illustrated to me that it is the Gazans who are the primary sufferers of the ongoing conflict. Further, he made it clear that both Israel and Palestinian leadership have no real intention of ending the conflict or coming to any sort of agreement given that they both do not support the other's existence at this point, which is ultimately an impossible place to start when attempting to negotiate any two-state future given that both countries have significant populations making it entirely unrealistic to support the non-existence of the other. He also supported a DMZ with the help of other Arab countries. In my opinion, the segment illustrated that the populations are suffering as a result of their leadership, particularly the leadership using conflict to maintain their power at the cost of innocent lives. Concerning dodging a tough statement, in addition to what is mentioned above, he made it clear that Israel should stop bombing and Palestine should release the hostages. I am not sure what more of a statement could be made other than suggesting that certain people on both sides should be convicted of war crimes for their atrocities, which I believe should occur in the future; however, what is most important right now is ending the loss of life and any threat of coercion on leadership could be a deterrent to that. If you are willing to suggest a statement he should have made, I would happily, consider it, particularly if it would support a path forward that is in the realm of possibility.

That is a brilliant solution (the third one hah). I had an online friend who lived in Gaza. The stories she told me, my goodness. Stories like how when she was eight, walking home from school, seeing a dead body in the street. Being holed up living off of olive oil because it wasn't safe to go out. We were both writing for a little blog at the time I knew her, and one day she couldn't publish anything because her city was being bombed. She had to shelter where it was safe. This is not how she wanted to live. She wanted to be a doctor. She had hopes and dreams. She didn't want to be trapped in a literal war zone trying to pretend to go about life as if she didn't live in a war zone. She wanted peace. We both joined a global women's peace organization together at that time. All they did was send stuff to our inboxes but it still felt right. And my heart aches every time I hear the news about Gaza because I knew someone who lived there. And she couldn't leave. And there was nothing I could do to help her. Once you know someone personally, it really changes how you see things. I have really struggled sometimes when I turned on the radio and hear them talking about the war. Because I can't handle thinking of the suffering that happens there. I know Hamas has done evil things. But so has Israel. And not all of Gaza is Hamas. And these people, and my friend, their lives matter. They're real human beings. I've lost touch with my friend. But I really hope she's safe.

The problem with the way this is being sold to the American public is that Hamas is not the Palestinian people. Hamas was voted in based on lies they told over 20 years ago. And there hasn't been another election since. Hamas wants civilians to die. They want the martyrs as a recruitment tool. Israel seems to be playing right into it. TBF, it was right there in the graphic on the screen. Also, not vetoing a ceasefire, but a resolution calling for one.

@@ACoolKidsProduction TBF the united states has been running diplomatic interference for Israel since the inception of the country. It was the US that used its veto in the security council EVERY time the entire free world lines up against Israel. Jon's piece was VERY deceptive.

@@kaltinhomer4853So many facts are left out and misrepresented. Hamas has offered to return ALL the hostages for a ceasefire and Israel refused. Israel’s atrocities have been brushed aside and not addressed. They have targeted refugee camps, hospitals, and journalists. They have shot at people waving white flags, and even their own hostages. The power dynamic is ignored. Israel controls all essential resources going into Gaza. Food, water, electricity, all controlled by Israel. Israel is also backed by the US and is a far greater military force. Jon only shows the clip of the Hamas member saying he wants Israel to be destroyed, but never discusses that Hamas doesn’t have the power to do that anyway, while Israel is destroying Gaza as we speak.

The US seems to be the primary reason the UN resolution is failing bc we keep vetoing it. I wish Jon had leaned on that more than making fun of the UN as a whole.
