@@octaviancaesarhibernicus4447 I know this is 3 years old but yeah hahaha You don't need hindsight to know Stewart was smart, but it helps. Just as an example, I'm at around 5-6 minutes in this video and he just described how the Dems had a supermajority (2010), how Obama could've played his cards, and how he ended up playing his cards (as Stewart mentioned earlier when he said Obama was playing too nice and he should've f*d congress as much as legally possible) Nowadays that is more common sense than looking both ways before crossing the road. We know that obamacare was an idea that I believe was first idealized in the early 90's by the heritage foundation, the individual mandate and whatnot. That was a right-wing thinktank organization and Obama through that and other examples like Dodd Frank legislation and everywhere else he tried to "triangulate" and be the New Democrat model Bill Clinton made popular in the 90's, "above the fray" and bringing the country together. Yes, back then it was still seen as the way mainstream dems had to be, and until nowadays we have braindead dems trying to repeat the same mistakes that have been making them lose a lot in recent years. We all knew Stewart was smart, but time only shows *how* smart he actually was! 😁

What stands out about this to me is how seeing him next to Jon highlights the fact that O'Reilly actually did have charisma of his own. It's hard to see when he's screaming gibberish into his "no-spin zone", but here and in the Rumble in the Air-Conditioned Auditorium really shows that he can be funny and interesting, in an albeit condescending and paternalist kind of way. In a way that makes the pairing of the two more dangerous, because it made O'Reilly seem more reasonable than he was. He was a monster under the skin, harassing his female staff and spouting propaganda for Roger Ailes, but you'd never know it here because he seems so personable - even through the insults. What we don't' realize is that Jon is just taking the insults in stride because he doesn't care, he doesn't take O'Reilly's persona seriously, so why should he? It seems funny when the man being insulted can just brush it aside as meaningless comedy, but it shows hints of O'Reilly's true colors.

I really love it when O'Reilly calls Stewart an elitist for knowing of a well known actor (or at least recognizable, all you'd have to do is the voice and most people would know who you mean) and then promptly brags about having somebody else mow his lawn.

I love whenever John brings up Fox, Bill just simply tells him "we aren't talking about Fox". Then he immediately blasts Johns show in some asinine way. What a horrible person

It's funny how O'Reilly suggests people don't think his show is news (he says it's obvious that it's opinion) but suggests people don't know the Daily Show is comedy, when their respective channels are called Fox News and Comedy Central

Lincoln, yes "that" Lincoln said,"never get in a pissing contest with a skunk, he likes it and you won't".O'Reilly fits the skunk persona exactly.
@jamisonw.3277 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say O'Reilly is an idiot, Jon enjoys sparring with him strictly because he is smart and he has reasons for his opinions. Jon likes ripping those reasons and his opinions to shreds, but it's a good time because they listen to each other and keep it civil. It's like Jon's argument with Christopher Hitchens, it didn't sound like an argument because they know how to listen and have an opinion at the same time. I can definitely say that O'Reilly isn't nearly as smart as Jon or Hitchens... but he's probably smarter than most.
@jamisonw.3277 жыл бұрын
On a side note, you should look up the interview Jon Stewart had with Christopher Hitchens. It's the only time I've ever seen Hitchens come close to losing an argument over anything, I didn't realize just how smart Jon was until I saw that. I think Hitchens is likely smarter, but everyone else he's miles ahead. Hitchens supported the Iraq war because of humanitarian reasons, and so the whole discussion was mostly Hitchens conceding that the way it was carried out was flawed and probably ultimately disastrous for all parties, but his point was that you can't see genocide and look the other way. Both valid mutually inclusive points over an opposite opinion.

@@damionverine7159 I am Nate from Georgia and I miss the art and skill of a debate between political rivals who are willing to allow a rebuttal to be heard and then Respectfully make a counter point with examples or evidence. And so on. But O'Reilly and Stewart were great in the day. Hell, it is entertaining. I debated in high school and was taught the proper etiquette of debate and I recall my teacher repeatedly said 'intellect before emotions, but think quickly without reaction.' I'm 46 now and I don't recall everything, but debate is an intellectual art form with a long history. However, what I learned and loved in high school in 1993, as a 17 year old has been rapidly becoming obsolete by my standards over the years into the Jerry Springer show, frankly. It is embarrassing. I used to watch CSpan for practice. Because, when in session, our Congress and Senate showed up to work on bills and actually having read them and then debate the proposed legislation. This can be done quickly at times and slower on the heavier issues. But, in 93 government officials would be present. I could pay attention to other colleagues responses and expressions at points, ya know. But our elected officials in both Parties. House and Senate don't even show up. Those chambers are not even half full and most are in their phones. Being from Georgia we have a district that elected the MTG overwhelming twice now. But if she has an agenda or conspiracy to flat out lies in line with her extremist base. She is an agitator and a disruption to every proceeding with her absurdity. She is from my state and I checked her out. Researching and checking facts about her was difficult because she was a southern daughter of a Contractor. She did graduate college. She has worked for daddy. She married into another well off family and that's it. She moved to another district in the racist oasis of North West Georgia below Chattanooga. Fuck I had to vote in a Senate Runoff between the incumbent and first black Georgian Senator with mentors like John Lewis and was involved in the Civil Rights Movement for years. Became the Pastor of the same church as MLK JR. His reputation was positive statewide and especially in Atlanta activism for local issues. Overly qualified and experienced in a Runoff against Herschel Walker. Herschel was a Trump loyalist for the simple reason that Trump payed him a record breaking contract to play football for the USFL team owned by Trump. Herschel was expected to be Trump's Star running back one more time. Trump went to Texas got him away from his chicken farm and he began the campaign for Senator. It was a suspect choice for most Georgia Republicans because Herschel Walker was registered voter in Texas for decades
