I understand that the negative sign had to cancel out while looking for "N" because there is no negative "Number of things" as illustrated, but does it need to cancel out while looking for "e" and "Q" which are charges, Electron Charges are negative, but I don't really know for Q? You earth it, but in this case electron flows from the earth into the body and neutralizes the protons when the positive rod is removed, the negative falls back and the body becomes negatively charged.
