Dear Jon Anderson, my name is Antonio Carlos, I'm 42 years old and I've been listening to Yes and Vangelis since I was 4 years old. I was raised by a magnificent man named Cláudio Beltrami, he was a visual artist, he painted surreal paintings in the style of Yes album covers. He already had the honor of watching your show at Rock in Rio, he told me it was the best show that he witnessed. Unfortunately he left us a week ago at 65 years old. Today I'm here watching the Apollo show on KZbin and remembering when we watched him and me on my TV together. I thank God for giving me such a wonderful and spiritual father and even more for introducing me to this magnificent sound. The first song he heard and fell in love with was Soon. Thank you Jon Anderson for dedicating so much love to everything you do.

I do feel the same. I bought Private collection on the week of release, I think, in late 1983. I had discovered Yes in 1982 with Close To the Edge, and Vangelis maybe the same year (his music was used a lot in the science series Cosmos by Carl Sagan, that I must have watched in 82/83, I think). I had read a review of Friends of Mr Cairo in an old magazine, too, that enticed me to lend an ear to their collaboration... Horizon is just their masterpiece, and Private collection is my top favourite album by them, one of my top favourite albums ever.

At the musical level, the Anderson - Vangelis combination is one of the greatest in the history of rock music. And I am objective after listening to very diverse music. The work of YES or that of VANGELIS contain separately one of the greatest and genuine intentions of art: to make people think, provoke emotions, contribute something new, be personal and non-transferable. They always sound like music of the future. Years go by but this music goes on and on and on as fresh as the first day. Every time a while passes and I hear those melodies and sonic structures again, my body feels a chill. That music does not lie, does not disappoint. It is real and clean. It causes daydream. The pity is that they don't work together again. A great sadness for art. All my Love

@@revokdaryl1 : I've owned all the APP albums for many years but I really don't see the connection at all. I wouldn't compare them and Jon & Vangelis made much more heartfelt, moving music, in my humble opinion. APP did some wonderful music but , except certain songs, it never moved me so much, and a lot of it is very, very different , they used dozens of different singers, made a lot of rather maisntream pop/rock music too. What I like in them is the ballads, mainly, the instrumentals, the orchestral, progressive edge.

This is by far the best song ever done by "Jon & Vangelis"! .... There's not very much else to be said! about it! ... it's also the best song on their "Private Collection" album! which also happens to be their very best album ever!..even if not in sales terms, at least it is so artistically! and musically! and it's also their best album ever for each one of them as individual artists! because none of their solo projects comes even close to the beauty of this album!.... something really good even for them! being two of the best music artists ever! too! be it alone or in their musical groups! ...When this was recorded and released back in 1983 this was really ahead of its time! ....and it is still so! today!... even now at these 2021 pandemic times! and standards!.... so this is really something timeless! ....really everlasting!... When it was done by them they both were in the their very highest point of their already excellent musical careers! ...and it really shows on this very special album!... and in this song in particular! ...so there's no wonder on the fact that after this album and this song they only could make only one more rather little and mediocre album together! because it was obviously impossible to make a better album! after this one! even for them!.... so I guess that was the main reason on why they both decided not to make any other album together! ever again!.... because it was just impossible to make something better than that album! even for them! as I said!....when I heard this album for the very first time back in 1983 it really blew my mind! I mean: nothing could really be compared to it back then! ...and nothing could still be compared to it even today in the year 2021!... still nothing can be compared to it! ....back in that faraway 1983 I was only a little young and humble 18 year old student! and yet the beauty of this song brought me then to tears! back then!...and it still does the same to me now! that I am a 56 years old!.... I mean: in this very increíble album with this excellent song: "Horizons" is really their very best song! ever! musically and lyrically! because it's not just the very good music!... it's also the very good lyrics!.... because those lyrics are so incredibly good! that they even make feel a little disapointed with this video! now! because this video has nothing to do related to those very beautiful lyrics!... and that's a shame! because this video it's not just another bad video from some other strange KZbinr!... in fact this video was suposedly uploaded (if not done) by the very same author of these very beautiful lyrics! which is something rather strange! to say the least! 'cause it has nothing related to the incredibly beautiful content of those very beautiful lyrics of this song! and the only way to express better this point is to write again those very beautiful lyrics!... so here they are!: "Horizons" by "Jon & Vangelis": In amongs the rings of confusion Silencing the thought powers one by one It seems all so incredible Our own ability to confuse - to sacrifice To enlighten like a Shakespearian play We foolish and happily hold on to sanity While all around the pushing And prodding of our feelings The twisting and turning of our hearts Displaying an almost indefinable strenght Of purpose - a reason, a reason, a reason Where no reasons seem to exist Yet, as in a vision, a voice trascending All our imagination, jewel of life Guiding light heralding a joyous new dawn Clear and gifted time Divine Nature - Super Nature The supreme gift in this cacophony of life Peace will Come Peace will Come Peace will Come Will Come! Peace will Come Peace will Come Peace will Come Will Come true Horizon! Come true Horizon Come true Horizon Come true Horizon Peace will Come Peace will Come Peace will Come Will Come! Reach for the starlight Reach when it calls you You, you are the reason If you want You are the answer in the end La la la's Sweet music, and your secret heart Both have the healing grace So, again, a change, it comes Our world desires a way Touch a child, who's lost, afraid, It lifts you to true emotion True feelings, be the light All that is good in this life Is good, good is good Oh everlasting dream, Oh future come alive To witness comes that time I just can help but believe in life, All in all I just can't help but believe there is a way For us to give, a way for us to live A way for us, A way for us ...

“Horizon” to masterpiece ! Pozdrawiam z Orlando, FL Krzysztof Srebrakowski

"Hi Jon, let's break some rules!" "Here comes the Sun". The sun doesn't fit on Earth, but it fits on the Horizon, because the horizon is infinite, just like Vangelis' music is infinite and when another enlightened like Jon, arrives there, there are no rules anymore; there is purity, there are feelings. "Oh, by the way", I love this song and everything you guys represent! Thank you!

I bought all 5 "Heaven and Hell" so I think it is the first album on CD and I am proud of it because in Poland 20 years ago to buy one album you had to work around 3-4 day , and not spend anything on bills and eating. I worked as a very young welder.

Only one word to describe this piece, and that is beautiful, especially from 9.35. I remember listening to this album on the floor of the POs mess. HMS Sirius, around 0300hrs, after my monthly 'blow out', somewhere in the Iceland Faroes Gap, mid 80s. Wish I could wake up there tomorrow morning, even with the hang over!

It was a magical time in prog rock when Jon and Vangelis released Short Stories, Friends of Mr Cairo and Private Collection in early 1980s. Page of Life was released several years later. I was so blessed to experience their music.

This music puts my soul at ease. I listened to them as a kid when my dad would play them and now I sign and hum with them. It’s soothes the tension on my neck and in my throat from trauma. They help me heal! They help DJ Hummz come alive!! So grateful for these musical angels/guides!!! Thank you Thank you!!

Shalom aleikhem !! Brasil

Vangelis Music is so fantastic, creative and sensitive. Jon Anderson´s spirited lyrics and that precious angel's voice, make the whole thing together, to complete the circle of magic love. What a message and gift of counciousness and love. - I carry this favorite song since 34 years ago in 1986 when I went buying this significative album. I feel so happy to be part of that generation. You are true deep artists. I wish you all, and Jon & Vangelis universal blessings and love forever! Thank you both and the universe, for such a lovely & sensitiva master piece. Alfredo - México

I think about, how difficult and expensive it was at 1983, to create this beautiful music. But the best synthesizer is nothing, without talent and creativity to play it. Here you find the best of all, from this time.- Thank you. And to respect and honour the creators, to make this music possible.

I have to agree with your 2nd line here - especially creativity. I feel that we have dumbed down so much creativity in the past 30 odd years, that the modern day synth player struggles with creativity, leading to lacklustre Electronic Music. Tis such a pity.
@sunnymas26565 жыл бұрын
@@bigjimtanguk7525 Creativity is: How you use it ? What quality level the composer and musician give for himself ? A current good example is the german band Schiller, with the chief creator Christopher von Deyle. In every decade there were and are only a few talents for this high level electronic music. Today with the computers it is easier and cheaper. More people can make electronic music. A creative talent can explore his music easier, as in the past. But talent and creativity for this kind of music you have it, or not.

I am very grateful for your response. I have followed EM for over 55 years and I have noticed that - only in the past 10 years, how muddle some it has become. For me, you can hum Beethoven, Strauss, Wagner, Telstar, anything by the shadows (as I believe they were an EM band in waiting), The BBC Radiophonic workshop - Ron Grainer's theme from Dr Who, Keith Emerson, Tomita, Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk, G Numan, New Order, Jarre, Vangelis, Oldfield. All through the ages, EM has left its mark with such timeless tunes that's missing today, I just find it hard to hum any EM nowadays and bridging seems to be a dying art. For me, they seem to stretch on and on on a single theme without any artful way of bridging one piece onto another and gone too is the amazing solos only synths can create. Also, for me good EM uses a mix of bass, mid range and tweeters - but I have noticed (again only in the past 10 years) how it's becoming more LFE based. This was why someone recommended I tried Rachel Flowers - who once more restored my faith that someone youthful can actually still play a keyboard. Now, if she teamed up with that kid drummer Sina - that would be some event. I thank you for your time. (Have a listen to David Wright's 'Dark Matter' from the 'Continuum' album. It's just a really nice track).

@@bigjimtanguk7525 Thank you, for your detailed comment. I miss the epic sound in the EM Music. It is so rare. I like Trance music =EM Music, but it is party music.

Although I am not a trance fan - it does produce decent melodies and has decent synth players. Try then Klaus Schulze 'The Wizard Of Doz' & 'Are We Getting Lost?' They are tracks 9 and 10 from the album Are You Sequenced? But as you know - the record companies slice up long pieces of musical works. Enjoy.
