As Assyrian/Syriac Orthodox Christians we fast for three days in remembrance of this story. We call it Sauwmo d'Ninua (Fast of Nineveh). We don't eat and drink for three days. Nineveh is the capital city of our homeland Beth-Nahrin (Mesopotamia/Assyria). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fast_of_Nineveh

My uncle was apart of the iraqi army and he was deployed to the outskirts of nineveh in order to take back the city from isis and he told me about how despite all the fighting and ruins, nineveh was one of the most beautiful cities he had ever seen❤️❤️ Love from an iraqi muslim to my dear iraqi christin brothers, inshallah we will all one day witness and see the prosperous and peaceful iraq of our ancestors😭😭

Yeah I like him, but he got some details wrong. Jonah immediately rebelled because he hated the people of Ninevah and the people on the ship tossed him overboard and lived.
@Daiiisssy4 жыл бұрын
Correction: Ship did not sink, people did not die. They threw him out into the sea and the storm stopped Jonah Chapter 1 Verse 15 "So they took up Jonah and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging. Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the Lord, and made vows." Thank you for the message.

Yup
@grossteilfahrer4 жыл бұрын
Yes that's right. the sailors cast lot and It fell on Jonah, so they pressed him and he himself said they should dump him in he sea. But Jonah cost them the load of the ship, cause they dumped that first.
@adamnoman46584 жыл бұрын
@@grossteilfahrer : Thanks for the complete detail on this part of the story. So the Lord wasn't entirely equitable, was he?
@jameshite48204 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I thought that was weird he made a point of saying the boat sank and other ppl died. Like, where did you get that from??
@grossteilfahrer4 жыл бұрын
@@adamnoman4658 im not sure I understand what you mean with the word "equitable". Do you mean he did allow some goods to be spilled? The sailors threw stuff overboard before they asked the prophet what to do, they all prayed to their respective gods first, but Jonah became the witness (in his return to obedience), that God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob is the true one, because what Jonah said did happen, even if Jonah may or may not have known he would make it after being thrown in the sea.
