Disney really boy band-ified them. While I will always love the stuff they did with Disney, I believe this was more consistent with the rock image they wanted.

I remember when this premiered on TRL on MTV and it didn't catch on. The jonas brothers were just too lame to be taken seriously in the pop/punk/rock scene of the time. Disney producers and writers gave them a new sound and image that would appeal to the young and dumb girls who didn't know what good music was.

bruceleedisciple Um, no? They wrote their records almost entirely themselves. Disney actually allowed them to do their own thing because they could genuinely write. So why fix something that ain't broken? Barring their "Lines, Vines and Trying Times" album which was more ~experimental,~ their sound always kinda stayed this way. Listen to songs post-Mandy like "Inseparable," "Games," "Hollywood," "Tonight," "Pushin' Me Away," "One Man Show" ...All pretty pop punk to me.
