I don’t think they ditched the rings because they stopped believing in message behind them, I think they ditched them due to being constantly ridiculed BECAUSE they wore them. That was the one thing the Jonas Brothers were known for back then, being virgins. And rather than being praised for being Christians who believed in purity, they were the butt of horrible jokes. And it scared them. Hollywood is HORRIBLE to people who have strong moral or religious values. But, I also agree with Joe, you should know exactly what you’re signing up for before you sign up for it. Religions make children take these oaths so young and it’s to groom them. It’s to have complete control over them. It’s not about God at all, it’s about control.

I hate how they were mocked and ridiculed for those rings because so many other Disney stars were wearing them at the time. I particularly hated how Russell Brand essentially humiliated them publicly on VMAs. That was so uncomfortable to watch tbh. That wasn’t even comedy or banter, it was just pure bullying.

@@kkb892 you can still make that vow without the ring, I promised myself I would never drink alcohol because of some trauma related in my life but I take it as seriously as a vow to God I pretty much consider it a vow. Even though I haven’t said in my heart anything like “I vow to never drink” In fact you can promise God you will wait until you’re married and then get yourself a ring to remind yourself. You don’t need a fancy ceremony or anything. If anything as Christians God commands us to wait anyway. So no offense but nothing is really stopping you, but again God does say be careful when you make a vow. I can’t remember the verse but I it’s basically like be careful and don’t rush into it or something, I forget. Which is why I haven’t taken a formal vow. The type of medicine I’m required to take daily are a good deterrent as well. But agsin it’s a command to wait I think purity rings are more of a physical symbol for some people.

If you have ever been traumatized by something, you don’t just “get over it”! And that is actually an extremely insensitive thing to say to someone who HAS been traumatized. I speak from experience, I too was traumatized by religious culture, such as the purity ring. It changes your entire outlook on life. If you are sick of hearing about it, then stop being a “fan”. They are more than just their music. They are actual people who have a story. The fact that they are sharing it and freely talking about it now is proof of how much they have overcome and grown. I will listen to their story as many times as they feel like talking about it and a true fan would as well!
