Having listened to more than 15 interpretations of the same composition, by only the world’s best tenors, this is my conclusion that it is just Jonas in this one which is the most unbeatable and top notch, in terms of the overall mood, tones, highs and lows, with the most delicate handling of various parts, but still maintaining the same somber note from start till the end. The amazing and extraordinary Jonas! Remarkable achieved.

In my personal opinion Nino Rota really was a fabulous composer and he impressed me many years ago, when I first saw The Godfather. For me even the lyrics seems to be suitable, but is fair to say that I don’t know how they sound to a native Italian. So, sorry for my potential bad taste. 

@@marianmatei1138 Dear Marian, I wanted to tell you that now I understand what the problem was! I've researched the song, and the scene from the film. It's a very beautiful theme by Rota (my own favourite is Il Gattopardo) but he isn't a songwriter, and an American put words to it, which are lovely but have nothing to do with the story. These words have been wrongly translated, very badly indeed - I wouldn't sing them! But the original words were in Sicilian dialect, and it was called "Brucia la terra". It's a scene of enormous sadness. Here is a good translation I've found for you. Now I can share your love for this song! My earth is burning And my heart is burning What she thirsts for water I thirst for love Who will I sing My song to If there is no one Who shows herself On the balcony The moon is burning in the sky And I am burning with love The fire that is consumed Like my heart

@@evamaisoumenosgood Beh certo, quali nazioni non hanno avuto Monteverdi, passando per Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti,Puccini, Verdi, fino a giungere per l'appunto a Rota e poi Morricone. Andiamo agli altri generi, quelli "moderni" : passiamo dalle melodie "pop" di Mina, Battisti, Celentano (testi e musica ,quelli del molleggiato, parlando dell'età matura, di una complessità e bellezza straordinarie), a Vasco Rossi per il rock, e dall'italo-dance all'italo-techno negli anni '80 e '90. Altre nazioni brillano in alcuni di questi campi musicali, ma nessuno "abbraccia" tutti i generi come il nstr Paese, cn tali e tanti autentici capolavori. E nn abbiamo certo il budget, parlando dell'età attuale, di nazioni quali Usa e UK che hanno dalla loro un dominio e linguistico ed economico. La cultura italiana, in ogni campo dello scibile umano, è di gran lunga la maggiore considerando le arti e le scienze nella loro totalità temporale e di generi.
