How I Placed 1st at the National STOL Competition! + Held the Kitfox SOLO in 70mph Winds...

I won the National Stol competition in Pinedale, Wy with my Kitfox model 4.
I couldn't be more stoked with my performance and to be able to beat the brand-new Carbon Cub with a Turbo is saying something! Let's GO!
Super thankful to Jake, Hal stockman, Brent Hoskins, Ray Montgomery and others for the help at the competition to finish it up. I Installed the last VG an hour before I competed.
On top of that, we were flying at a density altitude of over 9000 feet with shifty winds.
To my knowledge, this is a first for a kitfox to be on the podium(correct me if I’m wrong) let alone a win. 🙌🏻
Shortly after the Competition, I was moving my kitfox back to camp when a Windstorm with 70mph Gusts came through and I single-handedly held my kitfox from flying away. not sure how, but I did.
Thanks to National Stol for putting on the event. you can check out their KZbin channel here-

You are blessed with a tremendous gift and unbelievable talent!!! Teaching tailwheel and backcountry flying allows you to fly, make safe, competent and proficient pilots and you will be surprised how many folks will be scheduling instruction from you! Your love of aviation pushed me into getting my PPL and finding the time 5 years ago!!! When given such gifts you need to share that talent with others...and charge for your time!!! I would fly up to you for 10 hours of dual and my bet is so would a lot of other folks!!! Thank you for the awesome videos!

Just wondering why nobody lifted the tails of those planes to reduce the angle of attack in the high wind. Put a box or a ladder or something under the tail wheel... Everyone was just trying to hold down a wing that is designed to lift them into the air.

@lohikarhu734
@lohikarhu734 5 күн бұрын
Jonas, I wonder if you could put a motorcycle shock absorber on the tail wheel, to eliminate the bounce... Indeed, if you don't need the weight of all that steel, possibly use a motorcycle coil-over shock for the spring action, and redo the assembly in aluminum, with the pivot right at the forward mounting point. Or, getting a bit goofy; if you used an air shock on the tail wheel, you could have it "retractable" just by bleeding air, so it might give you some advantage on transit flights, and give you adjustable tail wheel height by adding air with a portable pump...if you have a vacuum source available, you could run a double acting air cylinder with a "shock absorber" action by having an adjustable bleed on one side of the cylinder, so that it's using air as the "working fluid"...or... Might be worth it to manufacture some stowable wheel spats to reduce the drag on the tires for transit flights, and take them off for"river running" or any other rough terrain use...if you designed them well, you could probably make them "stackable" to stick them somewhere out of the way when you get to, or near, your rough area destination. So, just throwing around a few ideas... (You-all on the channel, with tons of experience, please just ignore the goofiest stuff, no 🔥, since I'm in hospital, and don't have my Nomex suit with me!)

Since we're nit-picking others' use of language, you might be interested to know that ellipses do not replace other forms of punctuation. Rather, they indicate that superfluous words have been omitted from a sentence. Also, in this context the word English is a proper noun and should always be capitalized.
