Nothing is more sad than a senior dev in a AAA company who has diminished and outdated skills due to years of managing and not doing any dev work. Those that let go and just embrace the new role as managers and leaders do fine, but most have based their identity and self esteem on those skills, so an intense insecurity builds and builds, and leads to more and more absurd posturing and pettiness.

Einstein worked patents to produce something of his own. It's ok to have a job to feed yourself while working on something that allows you to grow.

@@nexovec it's worse than 1902. Jobs are even more mindnumbing, cost of living is much higher compared to salary, jobs requirements are insane, nobody trains you. Only the best and/or player characters will ever be able to build something of their own while trying to make a living (and part-time jobs are very rare and competitive). The average normie or aspiring "doer-of-things" will toil till the end.

Pretty arrogant to compare yourself to Einstein lol

I think this applies not only to "Young" people, but for anyone that doesn't feel like they are where they want to be.

While Einstein worked in the parent office, he only did a few hours of patent work a day. The rest of time time he was doing physics things.

You're making it seem like he didn't work. Einstein actually got so good at his patent job he could complete the work within a few hours, usually, and then dive straight into physics.

I really like how this ends with a counter-example. Great show of good-faith

yikes :( I went from a job I loved that let me grow the whole time for 10 years, but my city got crazy expensive and I had to take a corporate job just to afford rent. A year and a half in I hate it. Hope I can move on soon, but circumstances are very difficult and I'm getting crushed. Just unlucky with the housing market being dominated by foriegn investment when I became a professional.

What if you can't find a job like that? Having a job that lets you grow to your full potential is important, but so is being able to feed and house yourself.

Life is not equal. Some will get it easier, some harder and for some it will be impossible no matter how hard they try. In the end there is no final score. You won't be judged. Also this video is not some universal rule of life that you should aspire to. It may resonate with you or it may not. If you are truly trying your best right now then there is no reason to have regrets. If you have regrets then don't look for excuses.

Its always like that, people get a job and they buy a house, a car, etc and then they have to keep doing that job to manage their expenses. If anyone want to follow their dream then start saving money, rent a room with 5 other friends or people divide the rent, sleep on floor if you have to. Find a small part time job that is just enough to pay your rent and food and keep working towards your goal.

@@gaurangshukla8235 remember that living conditions can undermine your goal too. If you, quote, "rent a room with 5 other friends", then there's absolutely no room for you to rest or learn quietly. You need to balance it out, saving every penny like that is probably not the smartest idea.
