One of the best movies ever done. Deep, sensitive and profound.

Demme is a brilliant filmmaker. From this clip alone you could hear why he's as good as he is. His responses to the questions were spot-on. 🎬

Or better, "was". Too bad he passed away six years ago.

He answered that last question well. People often criticize the movie for being too safe or corporate, but Demme's perspective makes sense.

It was an amazing film. I will never forgot seeing it in the theater when I was a kid and a woman had to run out of the theater crying hysterically. Oddly, it took witnessing that along with this film for me to realize how bad the AIDS epidemic was. Although ironically, years later in college when working in a video rental store, our gay mailman complained that this movie didn't even have the courage to show two men kiss on screen.

I still can’t believe he’s gone 😢 The early 90s truly wouldn’t be the same without him

He is truly missed. He did great in this one, Something Wild and The Silence of the Lambs. His fair dark comedy was Married to the Mob

It is really fascinating to think how much of a career changing decision the casting of Tom Hanks was. Thanks to the interviewer for bringing this to our attention. Before "Philadelphia", Hanks was only known for light entertainment, rom-coms and that stuff. "Big", "Sleepless in Seattle" and so on. I remember how many of my friends and myself reacted when we heard that that Hanks guy had been cast for an HIV-film. "Seriously?" Altough in all fairness, Hanks had already shown his versatility in the otherwise terrible "Bonfire of the Vanities". However, you wouldn't have thought of him as a character actor. After "Philadelphia", and after "Forrest Gump", of course, this boyish image had completely changed.

Yes they were! Also, Washington and Foster paired up years later in Inside Man 2006
