Dear Heart: I join with the thousands of others who saw the beauty, the strength, the courteousness (which seems to be lacking in today's world) be brought out by an incredible actor for the world to see. Jonathan Frid was one of a kind and his creativity brought forth a character I have not seen since and may never see again. Any woman loved by Barnabas would have known he would protect her and yet he would have let her beauty and wisdom embrace him as well....I could listen to him speak forever. Thank you for this amazing video.

@@lyngilbert5684 You expressed my exact thoughts so eloquently. What a beautiful man and consummate artist! Those soulful, expressive amber eyes that glinted and glowed with so much love, passion and sadness; the keen intellect within; the graceful way he moved; the beautiful, expressive way he used his hands; the seductive, sensous, perfectly rounded Shakespearean tones; the slow, knowing smile that made our hearts melt. There was only one Barnabas and only one actor who understood what made him tick and who captured his soul, and his name was Jonathan Frid. There will never be another like him. RIP Sweet Prince.

I was one of those Baby Boomers who ran home from the bus stop each day to watch DS at 4 pm. I was 15 and our family lived in a very beautiful but spooky pre-Civil War house on the Potomac River (we weren't "alone" in that house, lol). It was the perfect setting to watch my favorite show. My mother was from Portland, Maine - of ALL places! Joan Bennett's "Mid-Atlantic" posh accent was lovely to the ear -- but not a true Maine accent (think "Gorton Fisherman" or the Ocean Spray "Cranberry Guy"). The rocky coastline of Maine is very romantic, spooky and mysterious, especially as dusk approaches. I spent many afternoons sitting on the craggy rocks at Cape Elizabeth watching the waves crash onto the rocks below - just like the ones in the Dark Shadows opening. No wonder I loved the show and its setting so much! Weirder still, I shared the exact same name (first, middle and last!) as one of DS's child stars. She died recently but I messaged her several years ago and got a sweet response! Jonathan Frid, however, was my absolute favorite. Even as a 15 yr old and knowing absolutely nothing about acting, I sensed Frid's GREATNESS as an actor. He took my breath away, gave me chills (and still does nearly 60 years later!). Jonathan Frid was the very embodiment of Barnabas...his VOICE, the way he glided into a room. I loved watching him even when he wasn't speaking. He was so immersed in the character and could convey so much in just a furtive glance, a sigh, a tilt of his head, a purse of his lips, the way he moved those beautiful hands. The expressiveness in those eyes - you could see Barnabas' "wheels turning", lol. Frid had such a physicality, a presence and energy about him. I am now binge watching DS on Prime Video and find myself rewatching certain scenes to study all his artful and subtle nuances. Frid had "dug deep" in his understanding of Barnabas Collins and was absolutely brilliant in his portrayal. What a treasure and legacy he left us! RIP Mr. Frid. 🌹

John Barry's beautiful soundtrack captures the tragedy of Barnabas so well here. . . The camera sees everything--everything. He may have been struggling to remember his next line, but we saw the pain and conflict of a troubled mind--and Barnabas came to life. Method acting, or just an actor trying to get through another day's shooting? It doesn't matter--it's magic, and "belongs to the ages." Dark Shadows was a rare gem and this tribute captures the dignity and spirit of the actor who gave himself totally to his role. Thank you for this, and I hope his cast members will receive equal treatment, because the ensemble deserves this attention--and to be remembered.

Thank you, Patricia, for this touching video. JF was stunning to look at and possessed a mesmeric, romantic, Byronic hero quality as Barnabas. A key part to his power as an artist were his beautiful, deeply expressive eyes through which he could filter a full range of nuanced emotions. JF's eyes spoke volumes. Great cheekbones too. Me and my late Fiance were going to see him in September of 01', but sadly, the tragedy of 9/11 cancelled our plans to go. My late Fiance never got to meet him. This video montage along with the Somewhere in time sound track really captivates Frid at his finest, and yes, it was actually the Barnabas and Josette storyline is how I essentially met my late Fiance online. We had a love for the original DS series and the original Star Trek as well. 🥰😊🙂 I believe Jonathan (as the immortal Barnabas), will happily continue to capture many women's hearts. He was extremely gracious and very sweet when I met him. I could definitely see the aforementioned qualities and charisma he possessed and brought it to life through his role as Barnabas. I can only imagine the excitement those young fans must have experienced when meeting their favorite actors after rehearsals/taping let out at the ABC studios back in the day.

Thank you Patricia. This music could not have been more perfect and your video and Jonathan are perfection. What a beautiful man, inside and out. Although I just recently "discovered" Jonathan Frid in Dark Shadows and am finding his other work, I agree with the post below - 'all others recede into the distance." Your video brings me to tears. He will live on.

Sara, I feel that way too and hope this video conveys those sentiments. The alchemy of his inner beauty, graceful elegance, and noble physiognomy is spellbinding.

Then, Patti, you are one of the sensitive souls of whom Egdar Allan Poe spoke. Barnabas Collins is beauty in its supreme development, and his origin was Jonathan Frid's own emotional, intellectual, creative, beautiful soul.

Ahhhh, those eyes... 💗 One of the best, most moving DS videos I've ever seen. Oh, thank goodness this show remains alive because it was so original & well cast... miss JF as Barnabas, a role he was born to play.

LOVE Jonathan Frid! And these were wonderful shots of him. The music was hauntingly beautiful too and I just saw that it was from one of my favorite composers, John Barry! Thank you for sharing!

Somewhere in Time! You are stabbing my heart with your beauty and the love I have for this show. ❤️ Only once has a show touched my soul, and that show was Dark Shadows. It's a show that transcends time and hopefully the astral plane so I can live there forever someday! 😉 👌

It was when he went to visit Maggie in her cottage after she finally returned home from Windcliff Sanitarium. Barnabas wanted to see if Maggie had any remembrance of what he'd done to her. Her dad left him to 'babysit' for a little while, never knowing it was Barn who had kidnapped her.

This character was the bringer of compassion, reason and humanity. Barnabas was tragically flawed only via his circumstances. Love was both abundant and cruel. Saw a remembered clip, that I viewed in it's original airing, only once, fifty years ago. Barnabas arrived, confronted crazy Trask, applying correction to evil. It evoked exactly the same reaction from me! Right has arrived to correct. Hopeful! Same thing in a scene with Victoria Winters! Dan Curtis said Frid had a calming effect on women. Ok. Thank you for your portrayal of the almost antihero Mr. Frid! Your character will be within me for the rest of my life! Both beloved and admired!! What a great enduring legacy!

You have managed to combine perfection in sound and vision with this piece. I can't stop playing it. What Edgar Allan Poe said! Barnabas Collins is and ever shall be my "ideal" of perfection. Thank you.

Yes... he is the ideal of perfection... to be loved and desired by JF's Barnabas Collins is the ideal of the yearnings of a women's heart. I don't know how Vickie could resist him.

Just ...WOW. I can only second all the nice comments others have posted. I've always loved Jonathan Frid SOOO much as Barnabas Collins since I was a run-home-to-see-Dark-Shadows kid in middle school. Thank you Patricia, for this very moving and beautiful video. :-)

Thanks Patricia, I watched Dark Shadows when it replayed on the Sci-Fi channel, Jonathan Frid as Barnabas was hypnotic and though he wasn't handsome in the conventional way, he still had the inner beauty to make his portrayal amazing!!!
