This was so wonderful! I had not seen some of the pictures, I loved the choice of song, and the ending comment was superb! I met Mr. Frid twice. He was so much more talented than he accepted, I believe. He was humble yet understandably guarded. Those of us who loved him will do so always.

Such a lovely and moving tribute to Mr. Frid. I so love the photo of him smiling at the opening. The photo at 0:13 is the one he autographed for me; he wrote on it, "Memory Lane Time". When I found it in a bin at a convention in San Jose, Calif., I recognized him immediately and had to purchase it. I ran across the street with it to have him sign it. He said, "Good Lord! I look like a baby...waaah!" When he told me the year it was taken in, I almost fainted, as it was my birth year!

Looking back now Matilda Woodhouse, it feels like it was like meeting someone in person like John Wayne!! Larger then life, incredible, and certainly very nice!! Even saying all of that now, there's so much more to it!! I also had the pleasure just once of meeting the late Joan Bennett to, as well as many others of the original cast from Dark Shadows. Very nice and pleasant memories indeed!! Thank you so very much Matilda for leaving your comments on what would have been his 91st birthday!! Happy heavenly birthday Jonathan Frid!! You are loved, dearly missed, but absolutely not forgotten by so many of your fans and fellow cast members!! One of his co stars, Lara Parker who played Angelique wished him happy birthday on Facebook!!

erimar266 Yes, it must have been quite an experience to meet him! And Joan Bennett and the other cast. It's nice to know Lara left him a message too. :) I made a little post on my DS google group to commemorate him too.

I just found this post in the Jonathan Frid Facebook Grp >>>>> "" Mr. Frid was a proud Canadian. When he retired he moved back to Ontario Canada where he had family and many friends. Jonathan Frid never married ( obviously ) and he never had any children. However, he was survived by his beloved cousins and his brother's children, and by his Grand niece and nephews who loved and adored him. They called him 'Uncle John'. He was dearly loved. Mr. Frid was not a religious man so there was no ceremony after he died. He never liked to be fussed over and he did not want a funeral nor a memorial. He preferred to be remembered alive and enjoying life. Mr. Frid did not want a final resting place in fear of the many obsessive fans he had who would seek out the grave of 'Barnabas Collins' and set up memorials and write graffiti about his character. He didn't want fans to put him up on a pedestal like a movie idol. He never wanted that kind of attention. Jonathan Frid said that many fans had trouble separating him, the actor from the character he had played. Fans would address him as Barnabas instead of his real name and they'd ask him a lot of 'vampire' related questions. He did not want those kinds of obsessive fans to bother his relatives . Mr. Frid would often say that he was nothing like his Barnabas character. He also stated several times that he would like to be remembered for more than just his work on Dark Shadows. He had twenty years of acting experience before he even appeared on the TV show and several years of doing dramatic readings in his reader's theater and in his one-man shows and his tour with the play, Arsenic and Old Lace with actors Marion Ross, Jean Stapleton and Larry Storch. Mr. Jonathan Frid was so much more than just his Barnabas character. R I P .""

To be honest, I only found out about Jonathan Frid because of Johnny Depp's new Dark Shadows movie. I'm a die hard fan of Johnny, and when I found out he was doing a new movie called "Dark Shadows" I got curious and looked up the old series to see what it was about. I watched tons of videos and read articles. My brother got me a bunch of episodes and I watched them and loved them. I fell in love with Barnabas too. I found a lot of these pictures from other websites, but it took a long time!
