I was Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz recently and thank god this was during rehearsal and not the show, but this scene was when we're talking to the wizard and I was supposed to say "Because you are great and powerful, and we are small and weak, except for maybe the lion." But during rehearsals the night before opening night I say "except for maybe the scarecrow" and so the scarecrow just vigorously shakes his head to say no and the orchestra and everyone is laughing and I can't figure out why. Finally after a few seconds I realize what I said and try to cover it up with "and maybe also the lion!" It was awful but so funny

Agreed! I became comfortable with brain surgery through the original "a new brain" 1998 recording. Now the man who "speaks for my brain" in HamiltonMusical is in the musical that made me less afraid of surgery! I got it! It's EXCELLENT! YayGroff!

Live stage fuck ups are truly the best. My high school did wizard of oz and I was glinda. We were on the scene where the wicked witch was supposed to do her famous line with the whole "very well I'll bide my time..." blah blah blah. It's a decent sized paragraph but the girl knew it. Well it comes to my line before she does her paragraph. I say my line and the girl playing the wicked witch blanks. I start freaking out mentally like "OMG IMG OMG WHAT DO I DO?!" The girl huff and picks up the line in the middle of the paragraph and I'm too shocked to continue, I then realize I needed to move to center stage. I run over grab the girl playing Dorothy by the hand and basically try and finish the scene without laughing my ass off. After that scene everyone was talking to the girl playing the wick going "OMG YOU PLAYED IT OFF SO WELL." We were hugging her and continued the show. After I go to see my parents and I ask them, "could you tell someone forgot their line during munchkin land?" They look at me so confused like "someone screwed up a line?" And another story from the same show but the last night. Since I was glinda, we used a bubble machine for effects when I entered and left the stage. We try and find the cord for the machine but we can't find it. There is a girl backstage with me who turns on the machine so I don't have to worry about it. We search and search can't find it. And they just opened the curtain. She finds the cord and tanks on it, it was under one of our giant props and she knocked the entire piece over causing a loud bang. We get the machine plugged in and turned on JUST as my music cue starts. And my heart is pounding because of what just happened but the show was overall successful!!!

Once went blank in a scene and had to loosely improv the entire scene with my friend; it was a scene that cut back and forth between me, the person I was speaking with and two other cast mates--luckily our lights person was phenomenal and saved the scene and the show went on. Wanted to 💀💀💀

Just the other day I was rehearsing for the show I was in (a little thing written by our director) the DAY OF our first show and I use this handheld mirror as a weapon(don’t ask). Anyway, as I was fake-stabbing the air, it flew from my hand and shattered into a million little pieces! Thank GOD it didn’t happen during the actual show, but it was pretty terrifying just because it was literal HOURS before the first performance! I guess I got lucky... which is ironic because shattering mirrors is supposed to be bad luck...

The only thing I remember happening is kinda boring compared to everybody else's catastrophes: As the Assistant Director of a local production of Once Upon a Mattress, I had to do a little bit of everything from running rehearsals to making sure all the props and people were in the right places at the right times. Not to mention sewing that God-awful heavy curtain. The scenery person that put it back up let me down because late in the first scene, the curtain fell. Literally. On top of the Queen. I was horrified. The audience loved it, though. 😆👏🏻

I swear, I've never been so turned on by a gay guy. He's beautiful. I do wish this had closed captions because I can't understand most of what he's saying. 🙁

I didn't do this during a show, but in rehearsal on the day of our show (it was a fundraiser for the 30s grad) I was doing a scene with my friend, and our show was a farce, so I've fallen and need him to help me up for some reason. Anyway, he doesn't, and my character gets really mad and slaps him. My teacher didn't want to block a fake slap, so she told me just to actually slap him. Well, I don't know why, but that time in rehearsal I slapped him so hard my hand was still hurting into the next act. Not that bad of a screw up compared to Jon's but still! I felt so bad!
