I think this is the perfect example of a Meades film. He takes something mundane like golf, and makes a good case that it is something of an insane cult. His language is incredible, like listening to a newspaper editorial.

I wonder what negotiations went into getting Meades permission to rip around a golf course in a 4x4 Lada like that. (Asking for a friend, of course.)

It does make you think, a 4x4 ubiquitous Chelsea London tractor going through a pretty basic sand dune, yes.

I wonder if Meades is a fan of David Lynch. That singing at the beginning reminds me of him.

Does he say "soccer hall sandwich" at the beginning? What is that?
@ajs416 жыл бұрын
I thought he said Sauchiehall sandwich.

Am I the only one who has noticed, that to comment about a Meades documentary you must adopt his language!

What is this weird middle-class 90s meme about kidnapped little blond things selling for lots? I used to be one and it sounds all too familiar from when my parents tried to scare me so I wouldn't run off and get lost, or hinted at the grim prospect to spice up their stories.

Golfers are furious at humanity. Golf is a game for the unhinged.

@yippitydodah Hmmm...I think he spent the years 1990-2004 doing just that, to be honest. Only, he made it clear in those years that these constructs we were taught at school of the "anglo-saxons" and "celts" and "welsh" etc etc are just lazy paradigms...reality is so much more exotic and interesting...

Pretend countryside. That's it. And why driven grouse shooting has the same aftertaste.
