seen this geezer live in the uk at least 15 times from 77 to 05 and still to this day cannot understand why he wasn't a lot bigger than he was despite the quirkiness, never seen anyone hold an audience like him and no one perform with the pasion and charisma. thanks for posting this

The most captivating performer I've ever seen. One time the audience wanted to just sit cross-legged and stare at him perform like some sort of guru, but my friend and I refused and danced our heads off. Everybody else joined in eventually.

i wrote a little album for my new niece at Christmas and enjoyed the experience. I've just come across JR and..........the depth through simplicity is amazing. I'm not saying this is easy to achieve, it's a life-times work, but it somehow says so much more than a twat emoting with an acoustic guitar, eternally searching for that earth-shattering line. JR, looking forward to knowing you.

I watched him on Space Ghost Coast To Coast and he was utterly charming. So read up on him a little and have been watching KZbin videos of him for an hour and a half! I came across these Conan O’Brien ones which was perfect. I adore Conan and so it’s made my introduction to all things Jonathan Richman really special. I looked at his KZbin music stuff and they don’t have a lot of views. Given his music biography, I would think he’d be more listened to. Plus the comments he received on the Conan videos with Richman were extremely positive. Apparently this guy has diehard fans of his music and personality. This is an important guy because of his place in music history (late 20th Century, but still).
