Excellent analysis! This is why people are so sure they are missing the true meaning of Taylor’s lyrics. Because they usually are. I do, as well, but at least I understand the vocabulary and can figure out most of the literary references. But the lyrics are deep enough to be subject to interpretation. And interesting enough to want to do necessary research

I honestly think this is among her best lyrical songs ever. I hurt for her after listening to this...and was thankful to have So High School as the next track. Her performance of HDIE on the Eras Tour was also painful to watch because it was clear that these feelings were barely scabbed over & now she was picking at them for the fans entertainment. 😢
