Songs like this are the reason you're doing this project. This song is very Swedish and exactly what Swedes like to jam out to on a summer night at the "Folkpark" or "dansbana" while drinking folköl, peeing in the woods and going for a midnight swim in a lake with water that is 15 degrees Celsius. Songs like this will get you more in-tuned with the Swedish culture. I was a teenager when it came out and it was everywhere at that time. I mean everywhere....

Pure nostalgia. As if an american wrote a song about the Ford Mustang. The song describes the most common version. California-white. Red vinyl interior. Big black bakelite steering wheel. Every Swede over 50 knows what this is about. I took the front bumper off mine. Very cool!

A million ton of recognition. All of us oldies have memories connected to “en gammal Amazon” of some sort. But “Långa bollar på Bengt” is better. Recognition from the countryside phenomena again…

I am from Vansbro where Svenne Rubins is from. And I were there when they made the Guinness world record concert :) Yepp, u stepped on many fond memories. Svenne Rubins is legends. All of their songs are sort of "story songs" mostly revolving around characters and happenings in the hometown of Vansbro and the world in general.

This song requires the video to feel "the feeling" of the "äkta amason" I mean, in the video you can see Christer Glenning as the driver. Christer G., Swedens biggest - in every way - former motor/car reporters on TV and radio. R.I.P. Christer

I was only nine years old in 1993. So I found it catchy enough at the time, even though I must admit that it wasn't my favorite even back then. But I can see how an American wouldn't get this song at all and be confused.

The thing about this song is not the vocal abilities, musical qualities or the catchiness of the song. Those things really suck, you're absolutely right about that. The thing about this song is simply the feeling of having an old Volvo Amazon. Pure Swedishness, I would say. That strikes something in "den svenska folksjälen" I guess. That's why a crap song like this could hit the lists and become a classic.

The same is true of Thorsson. "Det spelades bättre boll på Gunnar Nordahls tid" is at least close to a "Klassiker". The first album name "Att kunna men inte vilja" explains it all. Love: "Älgjakten" and "Turistinformation".

Haha I don't think us Swedes can expect you to understand some of these songs. A lot of people would have fun memories of this being played at dansbands events where not much else was happening in the dayily life out on the country side. It is silly and meant to be silly. I remember learning to dance "Bugg" in School to this song in the 90ties. Swedes are pretty uptight and enjoy silly things sometimes that arent so serious. Also we seem like "story songs" as you call them. Bluegrass which has a complete different feel are story songs but usually sad. This is sped up silly stories for people to dance "Bugg" Dance to and have a giggle. And if you are having fun, you will have nice memories to it and like it for that reason. That's my spiel on why it got so popular😁

Sometimes even I can wonder why a song, though I like it myself, actually could have become a hit on for example "Svensktoppen" in the past. Like this suggestions: Torsson - Det spelades bättre boll Hemliga Byrån - Hej, Hej, hemskt mycket Hej Julia Caesar - Annie från Amörka Mora Träsk - Små grodorna: Hip hop remix (Yes, you read correctly!) Bengt Pegefelt - Köppäbävisan Jigs - Min jojo Matz Ztefanz med Lailaz - Evert The list could be even longer!

It was fun to see you almost have nothing positive to say about a song for a change :) Regarding this being no 9. I looked it up. This was for Svensktoppen, which is voted by older people and this list is mostly dansband. And it only lasted one week. So not much chart success for it. Långa bollar på Bengt was their big hit and is a much better and catchier song, but I can understand if you never want to listen to this group again :)
@jokervienna64333 жыл бұрын
This is silly song, very true. BUT. To really get it, you have to understand that many Swedes still have a very big connection to some of our old cars. More or less, like fanatics. I know you have the same phenomenon in the US, it is just different cars. There you have Caddilacs, Mustangs and much more. It is just the same with Amazons for some Swedes. :) Fun fact: if I remember correctly, the Amazon was the first car with a three point seat belt.

It does not get more goffy than this. Music I would deny that it was Swedish if any foreigner had asked. But do you want tips on more bands that are farmer raggar rock. There are Eddie Meduza and Björn Rosenström. Both have made Swedish classics, but they are not good in the same way as this one is not. The thing with it, however, is that the text gets stuck in one's head and for a Swede, a listen is enough, then you can sing along. Those bands are good at that kind of songs.
