few tips i know about this device. 1: ALWAYS use the RA games option. for some reason the other game room option has GARBAGE performance??? 2: tapping the power button quickly changes the D-pad to work like a control stick. 3: this runs Linux, and there are guides online showing you how to update it to the latest firmware which I believe can use something called portmaster, letting you port Linux games to the device to play them.

Although granted, I did get a DS Lite a year later so that could have been a factor (I definitely broke that one, as well as my OG and New 3DS later on).

The TF1 and TF2 likely stand for TransFlash, which is an old name for Micro SD. which is also why they are sometimes called TF cards.

I own the original RG35XX, the one that looks more like the GBC, and installed GarlicOS. Ambernic devices usually work better with custom OSes and in this case, it gives you the option to overclock it, so PSP games actually work a decent bit better even, in exchange for battery life. Milleage may still vary since I only really play SNES and GBA games on mine lol

I would also like a device like this that runs Android, but hinged Android gaming devices (that aren't just folding screens / flipphones) are very rare to release. The last one we had was the Retroid Pocket Flip, which has been discontinued with no sign of a successor even though the response was "this is good, but it needs something to push it to greatness".

I got the non SP version (ambernic 35xx) for like 30 bucks on sale and I’ve been having a blast with it. Wish I knew about the sp version before hand though because it looks super cool!

This is by far my favorite emulation handheld I have ever owned. I saw a post on reddit about the hinge breaking, fingers crossed that doesn't happen to me. I have this as a companion to my Steam Deck, everything that plays on this is played on this, it saves my Steam Decks battery. It actually plays a ton of games. Why do so many reviews automatically jump to systems it can't play well?

I got one of these recently, runs on linux based OS. I recommend either muOS or batocera as cfw for it. Just make sure to load roms after setting up the secondary micro SD card

Mine's the Plus, the other other other shape the RG35xx comes in (they're all MOSTLY the same hardware-wise, just different form factors and slightly different build qualities). Super cool handheld, I got it to replace my old Powkiddy v90. I'm starting to slightly regret not getting a handheld with at least one analog stick, but otherwise I've got no complaints, and I've put a lot of hours into a bunch of games I used to play a long time ago. PS1 racing games without a stick really stinks though, oof. I know there's a way to configure a bluetooth controller to work on it, and playing via wired OTG works too, but I haven't fiddled around with it enough. All the CFW is pretty hit-or-miss with a big list of pros and cons, so I just go with the slightly-modded mod version of the stock CFW. EDIT: yeah, use the RA Game option, it's Retroarch. I still have no idea what the other game mode is, if it's some kind of garbage custom emulation they slapped in or if it's just whatever rando emulators they found across the internet, it's awful and I wish there was a way to hide the option.

I have a similar console, the RG353V. I honestly recommend it more bc it comes with Kodi, Linux, and android. I would recommend cloning the sd cards to safer ones to prevent data loss, and it has 2 gigs of ram

Good thing there are videos nowadays for better ppsspp settings. Got the R36s, games worked better with edited settings. Oddly God of War was usually 15 fps, some slowdowns with more enemies

I love my RG35xxSP but I really recommend installing MuOS. Portmaster games be crazy. I play a lot of Fallout 1/2 and Stardew Valley. I think it can run doom 3 even.

Whenever you get any of these Linux China Dinguses - Custom Rom, Custom Rom , Custom Rom pls. Although the stock firmware experience for these kinds of devices is not as bad as it used to be (considering that is used to be borderline unusable the bar is not very high) the community usually does wonders for both performance, aesthetics and usability. Also in what world do we expect 50 dollar devices to Emulate Wii and Gamecube, unfortunately it's still too soon.

Note: There are Ambernic models that do have Android, but the most expensive models (and the most expensive currently uses Windows and PC hardware) But the one you bought (The rg35XX SP) is on the cheaper line, so the rg35XX limit is PSP

Please do a video covering ports! You can port games with custom OS like muOS and KNULLI OS. You can play lots of FOSS games as well as some 2d classics like Celeste, TMNT:SR, and Ocarina of Time source ports. It's still very limited (no X server, OpenGL ES only, and ARM), but Half Life can still run on it!

I would recommend the Powkiddy V90 to you for $30. It's basically the same but cheaper and a little worse, and with the community firmware it runs dosbox, and supports usb-c connection to your computer. Which means you can make some very chaotic choices

i feel like people buy these devices to play shit it can't handle and then give it a bad performance reputation when it can't do it properly. Like, it's MEANT to emulate GBA and older. As much as I love Bringus, I really hate that he focused on what this device *isn't* good at. It makes the RG35XX SP look like a piece of shit when it's actually really awesome if you're using it for its intended purpose. granted, it does come with those emulators and games, but I'd like to think the whole point of the "SP" part was to market it as a fucking gameboy, which it's really good at being lol

if you want wipeout in your pocket, I run the PSP version of wipeout pulse on a retroid pocket 4 pro with the FX350 modpack installed, and the hires texture pack, at a locked 60fps lmao. looks better than the PS2 version.

I believe so. The game has been ported through PortMaster. You just have to transfer your own game files onto the device using that tool. I don't think it would play too well without sticks, though.
