There is not one time when i heard this song and i didn't cry. This is by far her best written song. I mean the songwriting on folklore and evermore are immaculate, the the amount of raw heartfelt emotions poured in this song and RED album overall is unmatched.

If you like lyrics and storytelling, Taylor is the one for you. Her voice is nice, I actually really like it because it's very distinctive, but it's not what makes her stand out amongst her peers, there are tons of main pop girls with voices as good as hers (Selena, Lana, Lorde) or even better (Adele, Miley, Beyonce, Rihanna). What makes her stand out is her writing. She once said in an interview that she was aware that if she didn't write her own songs she wouldn't have gotten where she has, and honestly that's the truth

Another song about Jake Gyllenhall is called The Moment I Knew. It is Taylor at her storytelling best. There isn't a MV, but there is a lyric video. It is simple, but oh so relatable. It is a true story. And, you can picture every sentence of that song, every moment, it is like you are in the room with her. It is an amazing piece of storytelling.

The entire Red album is essentially about her relationship with actor Jake Gyllenhaal. The subject of this song (post breakup) is sort of directly preceded by "The Moment I Knew", TMIK, one of the bonus tracks on the deluxe version. TMIK is about her 21st birthday party. "22" is about her 22nd birthday; by that time, she was "Clean", the last track on the standard version of Red.

I don't understand why would Ms. Aretha Franklin answered back "nice dress, beautiful dress" when she was asked about what she thinks about Taylor. I mean, every celebrity (actors,singers) wear beautiful clothes. Clearly the interviewer asked Ms. Aretha about Taylor musically. Not a hater. Because Ms. Aretha Franklin is an A++ vocalist and legend. Taylor Swift has an extremely weak voice, and for someone with a weak voice to become as famous as she did, Aretha probably looked down on that. She also most likely only knew of her from her singles - all which were very teen pop/country, so she didn't take her seriously. In that same interview she was asked about Nicki Minaj - she shaded her too. Probably for similar reasons (namely not taking her seriously as an artist). Whereas when she was asked about Alicia Keys, Adele and Whitney Houston, she praised them all because they were successful only because of their music/voice/writing and weren't associated with "teen pop" or gimmicks. All of them are more old school, which is something she appreciated and could relate much more with.

the most amazing part of this song is in Taylor's song book arrangement (where she throws her head back in these videos) the left hand chords play the sound and rhythm of pent up unshed tears - the right hand creates an innocuous chord with the melody so you don't hear the pent up unshed tears unless you actually play it. such a song writer

Thanks for your reaction. IMO, Taylor's Magnum Opus. Not her most popular song, but among hard core Swifties, top 1 to top 3. In no other song does she unashamedly opens up her soul like in this song. And does it while showcasing her immense talents as a songwriter and performance artist. You can still enjoy Pop Princess Taylor songs (Blank Space, Shake it Off, etc.), but they pale in significance to songs like this. So, IMO, if you don't know songs like this, you don't really know Taylor. And I am not even a hard core Swiftie, I love her work, but I lean more to Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish, Blackpink. Dude, you should be doing Blackpink, or at least Rose On The Ground. Think Billie Eilish cross genre, but with rap and hard core EDM beats, and acoustic guitars. Once in, seeing the seamless mixing of pop, rap, r&b, country (yeah, acoustic guitars), you will look back on Western pop as being unidimensional and boring AF single genre music. Also BTS (start with Mic Drop). Blackpink and BTS are not Kpop, they are World Pop.
