I live in Long Island and these girls were from our area and, when this record came out in 1971, you would have thought these girls were the biggest thing on the planet! People are still talking about this record! Lead singer Pat Carty is still one of my close friends and I was so surprised when I went to college in Ohio and became the DJ on the radio to see how much the phones lit up when I played this song! They not only knew every word, they loved it and requested it again and again! They had an additional release which could have provided them with another hit ("A Woman Will Do Wrong" backed by "Dear Mother") but, unfortunately, they did not get the proper backing from their record company so they are solely known for this classic. Got a chance to talk to Jolanda Ayers-Cruz who took Pat's place on their subsequent releases and she said Pat gave her some tough shoes to fill! What a voice!

@Shauniece Randolph: I hate to be the bearer of bad news but, unless your mother was one of the girls I mentioned in the comment below, you are sadly mistaken - perhaps she sang in another group with that name or sang this song in a talent show! Even the record company and the studio are in the two towns on Long Island these girls are from! Perhaps you are confusing them with The Fuzz who were from D.C.!

I am a personal friend of Pat Carty, who sang lead on this song which put Long Island on the map in the world of soul! Though you will hear many different accounts of who was in the group, in reality, Magic Touch featured Pat Carty as lead vocalist, Johnette Fitzgerald-Alexander (deceased) singing the opening intro, Flornia Fitzgerald-Williams and Ruthie Fitzgerald singing background vocals. On the live version, Marilyn Wright (also deceased) leads, and on the subsequent singles ("A Woman Will Do Wrong" backed by "Dear Mother" and "Let Me Go To The Disco"), the lead vocal is done by Jolanda Ayers-Cruz, who wrote "A Woman Will Do Wrong" and "Dear Mother" songs in the studio along with label owner Bill Seabrook. Pat Carty is still singing in 2020, though mostly gospel.

Dad bought this single when it was released. I didn't hear it until some 13 or so years after its original release in '71 but immediately felt this cut when I first played it as a kid. When you see her again please give Pat Carty a warm hug and a heartfelt thank you from her fans : )

@@tsahrarediamond5939 The only female singing group I know who come close to these angelic voices are The Chantels, who set the standard in the '50's for all the groups who followed (including The Shirelles and The Supremes) and still sound the same! These are The Chantels performing "He's Gone" (live!): kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaOzZaSvp6-Lmas, "Look In My Eyes": kzbin.info/www/bejne/opyrl42CnreGfbM and "Maybe" (featuring original lead singer Arlene Smith): kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2XNaZttfLBllac.

You're so right - the "B" side (Part 2 - Instrumental) would make it perfect. Believe me, I've been searching long & hard for that 45 (Black Falcon Records - ah yes, I remember it well), but, so far, to no avail. Once I do find it, however, I'll have it posted with a quickness... trust and believe!
