I was a 28 y.o. artist living in San Francisco at the time, and will never forget Jonestown or the Moscone/Milk assassinations that came after it. San Francisco in the 70s was a wild, unique time, full of creative energy, cults, radical political groups, and liberation "armies."

Easy. Jim started his life as a preacher in his early 20’s, doing good for his community and surrounding communities. As time went on he morphed into something unforgivable. It isn’t an overnight process. He lost himself along the way and mislead many. Many of the people living there were 9-5 professionals, others were people who society didn’t care about, and some were just looking for meaning, love, and acceptance. In the end many were forced to drink the koolaid. Be lucky you have never been someone who felt like they were lost and searching for more. It could happen to any of us.

@MolotovKilljoy thank you for using the word "forced" because what many people don't understand is that it wasn't a choice everyone voluntarily made. For some the choice was made for them. The metaphor of the frog in the boiling water is a perfect analogy. They felt good going in but then the water gradually warmed up. When they realized it was too hot they couldn't get out. Finally, it reached a boiling point and sadly they lost their lives. I cannot imagine the horrors they endured. May their souls rest in eternal peace.
