People like Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Graham Nash, David Crosby & James Taylor were captivated by Joni. Jimmy Page said she brought him to tears. She was also part of Led Zepplins song “Going To California”!! THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER JONI. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Been a Joni Mitchell fan since she was playing coffee houses in my home town in Canada. I've heard a lot of music over many years. Joni Mitchell's melodies and lyrics are incomparable. This song takes me back to a critical time in my life and her version has a wistfulness (for me at least) that is painful, yet seductive. There are a lot of things from my youth I would reject today but being a Joni Mitchell fan is not one of them.

Joni is my all-time favorite singer/songwriter. She made a string of incredible albums from "Ladies of the Canyon" through "Hejira". Many cite "Blue" as her best or "Court and Spark" but for me it's "For the Roses". The songs are like reading her diary, about all sorts of things including broken relationships, her parents, social issues and a tribute to Beethoven.

They're all great, but "Blue" is the song that springs to mind when I hear her name.

Got both Woodstock lps only 11 at time but effects of hippy generation live on today. Played lp all time with my friends I 70s and 80s here in far north Scotland! Joni just one of great artists from 2 decades. Dozens 😍

🌹Great reaction and the unbelievable Joni. My best friend and I were 13-14 when Woodstock happened so we couldn't go. We did watch the movie and I've met a few people over the years who were there. They never expected such a large crowd and there was chaos and rain amongst the peace and love. But, all said they were glad they made it. I love her line: We are stardust, We are golden. And we have to get ourselves back to the garden. I pray that one day we will be just one race, one country- the human race. You may want to watch the concert The Last Waltz which was held in San Francisco at Thanksgiving. She's in it and many greats. Loving your reviews!

I was 'blessed," and I use that term rarely because I am not particularly "religions," to see her live once toward the end of her performing career. It was classic. It was perfect! It was worth ten times what I paid for the tickets by far, which was considerable. But man -- every second was worth it!~

Sally Galarneau Dylan is undoubtedly more known and has more iconic songs but a lot of people agree that Joni was just more personal/genuine in her art, which is why she is often said to be better than Dylan. It’s all preference though. I prefer Paul Simon and Joni over Mr. Dylan and Cohen for example, but they’re all obviously genius in their own right.

C, S, N, & Y turned the song into an anthem; however, as you may notice Joni plays much of the song on the black keys of the piano. She wrote this as an ending to an era, and as always she was correct.
@Samscoinsandheavymetal4 жыл бұрын
The black keys are just sharps/flats. Not even sure what that means
@davisworth51144 жыл бұрын
Playing all the black keys is Eflat minor, all the notes are blue notes, if you want to play easy blues on piano just start on Eflat and play the black notes, the minor pentatonic blues scale. Joni's arrangement is bril.

Now play Crosby, Stills & Nash Version. Graham Nash and Joni were living together at the time. When CS & N got back to their Hotel in NY, Joni played this song for him. Nash told the guys, when they heard it they told Graham...”Ask her if she’ll let us record the song? The rest is History. SanJoseBob

"We are stardust, A billion year old carbon, We are golden, Caught in the devil's bargain..." Joni is the most masterful lyricist on the planet, possibly greater than Dylan and Leonard Cohen, at the very least shoulder to shoulder. The message of the song expresses a kind of desperation, she chose not to take the stance of glorifying the Counterculture movement but to look at it as a generation's desperate attempt to free themselves from the shackles of violence, greed and corruption that were constantly bearing down upon them. Sound familiar?

Howdy Mojo! First off, 2500 subs in the headlights! I am watching this day's offerings in reverse order. After so many years of hearing the CSN version, to here Joni's presents such a startling (in the best possible way) contrast. Her voice is so unique and magnificent, so bell-clear in its tone. Gives the song a whole different atmosphere. Now on the "Teach Your Children" video, I mentioned how the wheels are turning for my next request. I was thinking: Since you have recently dipped your toe in country (per my request, along with Uncle Ted) with "Seven Spanish Angels", how about something from Willie Nelson's fellow Texan and outlaw partner, Waylon Jennings? I've seen some reactions of Waylon's songs elsewhere, but I have yet to hear anyone do one for his song "Clyde". Though under 3 minutes, it has some pretty neat elements to it (IMHO), and I think you might just find Jennings' backstory fascinating as well. I of course have my own little backstory on it and can fill in any holes necessary, if you're game, that is. Thanks for this reaction, thanks in advance for any consideration given to this suggestion, and hope to see you again soon. Again, that's "Clyde" by Waylon Jennings. Stay groovy!

Love watching your Joni videos. Want to see more. As a footnote, anthropologist Camille Paglia has a book she published several years ago in which she analyzes what she thinks are the greatest poems ever written and she includes Joni's Woodstock lyrics as her final selection. It's definitely with taking a look at. Thanks. ✌🎶

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young made this a hit in the US, Matthew's Southern Comfort in Europe. The arrangements differ a lot from each other. Matthew's.. altered the melody as the singer Ian Matthews did not want to even try the higher notes. It might be an idea to check that out as well. :)
