Saw this live. Was sitting way up the hill in the stands with perfect view of the Dinner Roll. One of life's most memorable moments. One reason: because he was not doing the Dinner Roll for medal points. It was a statement.

Absolutely ripping his run, then getting out of his skis and jumping into the crowd was so metal. Just made the crowd stoke level go up 1000%. Legit brought the entire place down when he did that. Guy is an absolute legend.

Can’t help but laugh at this in the year 2020. And I don’t mean that with any hate whatsoever. The trajectory of the sport and where it is today just leaves me chuckling at this clip.

Yes, it is a spinning contest nowadays. Moguls are more evenly spaced, it is easier to maintain straight fall line. The sport moves away from it's roots, skiing. We have enough x games slopestyle etc events.

Haven't skied since 2002. Was a huge mogul fan. Moseley definitely brought the style back to freestyle. I remember the feeling of finally learning to do a 360. I'm older now, but wish I lived close enough to a mountain to try these new school tricks.

You are probably right, that makes sense... I am going off what my friends called it when they tried to do a 360 when I was a teenager in the early 90's. We were in the boonies lol.@@chrism9976

Anything went...cargo pants...make up your jump name off the top of your head...whatever you like. It was fun to watch then, sort of like watching the best ski bums on the olympic slopes... Style seems to mean something different with time as the olympics tends to want to turn anything into ballet were everyone is serious and wears the same unitard (with pointed toes if you can get them that way).

That was the Gold, no doubt about it, he got screwed by a gaggle of ol' fuddie-duddie European judges
@yoyobrando92433 жыл бұрын
Yes, and no. Technically he should have been disqualified for that run. Inverted tricks were illegal in Olympic competition then. When the judges watched the replay they saw his feet went higher than his head during the spin. Technically an inverted trick. But instead of dq-ing him, they acknowledged how fucking bad-ass it truly was, and gave him a medal.

It happens all the time.People R scared of new things.Wether its music or lifestyles or sports..People R afraid of change & the unknw.....But thats exactly what has to happen to have things 2 move forward & evolve!!.The fact that he came in 4th made no difference to the people (skiers) that understood what just happened ,,,,I was living in Breck when he pulled this off & the bar I was working at. ERUPTED!!.Lookin back on some of these YT vids a lot of this stuff looks tame by 2days standards!!

Times have certainly changed.. came to this video after watching a ten year old do a double back flip... 10 year old 😂
@mtbdawg4987 Жыл бұрын
You see what changed is all these wealthy psycho narcissist yuppy parents coaching up their infants before they have a free will of their own. The kid is simply a product of these parents that treat raising kids as some sort of arms race. The kid isn’t shit, just a tool. People back then were more natural athletes. Now it’s just rich parents sending their kids to train for backflips in foam pits as soon as they can walk upright. The natural athlete has been replaced by these privileged trust fund babies (literally)
@brennenconwell6201 Жыл бұрын
@MTBdawg lol you maybe 2 percent correct. Has more to do with the era..Lighter better equipment, terrain parks kids spend all day in... etc etc I've skied for forty years. When we were young it was moguls all day. Some back country n cliffs at most. Tricks consisted of helicopters, daphis, backscratchers and possible flip.. zero of what these kids do now. No one even thought of a flip twist off a fucking knuckle huck.. so good try with your theory. Lol
