well, that was fun. as a Yank who is around these cars a lot and the muscle car community in general, it was interesting to hear accents and words and thoughts that you *never* hear with my people...'patinated'...'monocoque'...'celebrate the pillarlessness'. amazing they knew about the rear window aerodynamic. the US was full of miles and miles of straight empty rural 2 lane roads, where cars had to pass and big blocks made sense...so bigger cars/bigger engines meant you owned the road. Now we're as congested as europe, and drive the same drab little gum drops. And yea, parking spaces have gotten smaller. Yellow dude clearly loves his car. STP guy seemed a little confused/unimpressed, but trying to be a sport about it, and then when yellow guy got on it, STP understood what it was about.

It's surprising how reliable old cars are once you set things up properly. The big problems were quality control from factory. So much more engaging to drive too. Lovely car
@andrewpaul7441
@andrewpaul7441 5 жыл бұрын
I lived in those cars. The concept of quality control was non existence. The only quality problems were with there owners not doing simple tune ups, oil changes and greasing the suspension. Driven on two wheels they will have the life of a B-52 bomber that's going on to about 100 years! Euro cars of the time period are all gone unless they got the white glove treatment and were never driven or exposed to humans. Loads of these are still roaming the streets of America daily not to mention places like Cuba and from Canada to Chile.

You just cant beat a Dodge Charger for looks. I had the 1970 440 SIXPACK Challenger. When I got it in high school. It was still under warrantee for $1600 cash. Gas was 60 cents a gallon. The SIXPACK got ok gas mileage running the center 400 cfm two barrel till you stepped on it. They were made to drive! At least 80,000 miles between the old rubber valve seals. lol. Oh it's a race cap. Not an ash tray. In the States your nick name would be PRIMER. Get some of it and put it on PLEASE!

Watching Rich's reactions to it was just awesome lol. Old muscle cars don't do anything particularly well in the grand scheme of things, but there's nothing else that can make you feel like they do. They're just so visceral. Technology can beat any performance figure, but it can't replicate the lunacy of how a big block V8 creates its power.

Well, it is white goods of a different era, rose tints view past eras as usual.
@richardharrold9736
@richardharrold9736 5 жыл бұрын
@@stephen300o6 this was an era when even washing machines and tumble dryers in America were ridiculously over-engineered and got painted outrageous colours and had big neon lights behind their control panels, and many of them were owned by car firms (Ford had Philco-Bendix, GM had Frigidaire, AMC had Kelvinator...). Like the cars, some of them were surprisingly cleverly engineered too... the Frigidaire Filtrator dryer launched in 1952 was a genuine thing of genius, a condensing machine with a heat exchanger that meant it recycled its own heat, DECADES before Europe caught onto the idea. Kind of like how the early 60s Pontiac Tempest had the same mechanical configuration as a Porsche 968 - multi-link independent rear suspension, rear-mounted transaxle gearbox, big four-cylinder engine (3.2 litre) up front (or you could have the Buick 3.5 V8 that later became the Rover). There was some serious engineering going on over in Yankland when Europe was farting about with swing axles and side valves.
