Would Rodman’s impact be greater or smaller if he played in todays game?? NOTE: Just to be clear, the comparison at the end was simply intended to be a comparison in play style, for people who never got to see Rodman play. Bruh it's weird that the pistons are the team that be having most of the underrated players. Isaiah Thomas, Dennis Rodman, Ben Wallace, Chauncey Billups, grant hill, etc.

As much as I hate to say it, but his impact would be smaller because the league now has gone 'soft.' The league will no longer allow his physical defense and the game truly has changed from a run and gun from 3. Thus affecting his rebound numbers and possibly have some minor difficulty guarding shooters especially stretch bigs. And he's also a liability on offense in a offense heavy system nowadays

I see his impact being Tony Allen/Ben Wallace-esque. His defense and hustle is always needed for any team but I feel he would a liability on offense and teams would target him and leave him on an island to make a play. Also his trolling was Joel Embiid/Pat Beverley x10000000. He could definitely be one of the league leaders in technical fouls which is a shame.

True. Chamberlain would have had 8 in a row from 1966-73, but he injured his knee in the 1969/70 season. He had surgery and returned later that year, but didn't play enough to win.

He was a stand out defender against Jordan and Shaq and not skinny early Shaq and bulkier post focused MJ, it was bulldozer Shaq and slasher MJ. There is also some footage of him breaking MJ's ankles in warm ups and MJ was a competitive sociopath.

What makes Dennis legendary is not just his athletic ability and rebounding but his durability and most of all ...his Mental ability and basketball I.Q. This guy out smarted and therefore outplayed the greatest to ever play the game. From Shaq to Karl Malone...he got at you and often won those rebounding and mental battles. He was a rebounding philosopher...animal. Respect.

The bulls offense improved tremendously when they added Rodman as he moved the ball beautifully and he fired outlet passes quickly after defensive rebounds.

Another good video. Just to add, Rodman was also an underrated passer. The triangle offense, needed bigs that could pass and he doesn't get enough credit for that aspect of his game. Some years back, Zack Lowe (I think it was him, it's been some time) wrote about Rodman that he was one of the leaders in hockey assists on those Bulls teams. The Worm was an underrated player.

Absolute force of nature. I watched games he played even after Bulls days. Never for his scoring, but his Rebounding, Defensive and sheer determination and hustle. Truly one of a kind. One of my personal favorites. Second best rebounder in league history after Wilt Chamberlain and greatest all around defender couse, not only he could defend all five positions, but he could shoot down almost anyone doing it.

What I mean is guys in Rodman's time backed you down with their back against you (it was easier to not foul someone when they back you down), in this Era guys just run into you till they get a foul, but there are a few drop steppers and a couple of guys who swing in the post to get open (Embiid) and that can lead to him fouling out abruptly. Still if he adapted which most greats do then he would thrive in this era.

Rodman probably wouldn't play today. First, he's way too much of an offensive liability. Second, there's no way someone that's 6'7" 210 pounds would be able to withstand the physical punishment he'd recieve playing power forward. Even if you think he could, he'd be on the perimeter a ton (a lot of 4's are stretch these days) negating one of the very reasons you think he's valuable (rebounding.) You can quote Draymond all you want but he's already an exception to the rule at 6'7" 230, (20 pounds is a big difference) isn't an offensive liability, and is one of the best passing power forwards in the league. I doubt Rodman would make the cut.

Rodman is the best individual defender I've ever seen! He literally could guard 1-5 and did it consistently! He is also the best rebounder I've ever seen! Thank you for mentioning the 60s-70s era. They took/missed way more shots back then thus inflated rebounding numbers. Guys averaged 20+ rebounds per game but those numbers are skewed. Rodman was so athletic that if he played back then, he might have averaged 25-30 rebounds per game! Rodman would be an asset in any era. But today's game, with the emphasis on stretch 4s/5s I'm not sure teams would utilize a player like Rodman? Me personally, I'd take him on my team any day, any era. His defense and rebounding were AMAZING! Let's not forget about his hustle and heart! Dude left it all on the floor, night in and night out! Personally I think Rodman was the perfect teammate if you have other superstars. He didn't care about scoring but could if he wanted to. He was happy to do the dirty work, get an offensive board and kick it back out so his teammates could score the points. Rodman was and always will be one of my favorite players ever! If you didn't see him play, do yourself a favor and pull up some highlights!

Love averaged 15 a game at the same size as rodman and isnt nearly as athletic. Ben wallace dominated the boards in Detroit last decade at 6 ft 9. Theres better spacing, less physical and enthusiastic boxing out from bigmen today. No one is stopping rodman today. The average size of a center today is 6 ft 10. Same as it was in the 60s with wilt and company. Bigmen are getting smaller, especially in comparison to the behemoths of the 70s 80s and 90s. Stop it.

Rodman made a deal with the devil 😂 he grew 6 inches after high school and became one of the all time great athletes. Made his debut at 25 because of his late growth spurt and he could abuse his body with drugs and alcohol for 4/5 days a week and still dominate on match days. The guy was an athletic freak. One of my favorite players ever. A consummate team player who was willing to do the tough, dirty work for his team to win especially when it comes to defense and rebounding. He had an underrated basketball IQ which not only encompasses the technical aspects of the game but even to the point of exploiting the psychological vulnerabilities of the other team. He got into the heads of so many opponents with his antics that he effectively took them out of their game in most cases.

Despite the numbers, Rodman was actually a decent free-throw shooter... when he tried. As someone who grew up watching him, most of the time he would walk away from the shot before it had left his hand. But there were times in crucial games where he would swish important free throws. I saw it often. And he could hit threes when he tried too.

Good video...I grew up in Chicago and loved Rodman when he played for the bulls. He could be annoying at times to watch because of all the antics, but he got into the other teams heads and was always full of energy on the court.

Crazy part was, during the games you don't even realize he got that many boards until you see the box score. He does it during the flow of the game. There was so many games i watched that i didn't even notice he got that many until the game is over.

Rodman was able to impact games consistently without scoring by playing great defense, diving for loose balls, setting great screens, tipping balls to other players (he did that a lot when he couldn't grab the rebound himself), rebounding and getting steals. He averaged 5 offensive rebounds per game and those are like gold because they give your team an extra possession, thus extra points. For somebody who didn't really score he made a huge impact.

Aside from the obvious, he had another supreme skill, disrupting any opposing game plan.....Not easy to do while usually defending against the best on the floor..... I think what should have also been mentioned was how great Rodman was at drawing fouls. He would get into his opponents heads and would frequently get them to get into foul trouble or even foul out. It's details like that that could make a big difference down the stretch in big games. Rodman was unbelievable at that.

This really mitigates his lowkey passing ability. His assist numbers don't really back it up because after an offensive board you reset the play entirely but his ability to kick the ball back out to his teammates was really high level and made up for his lack of scoring down low.

Rodman was the rebounding king and a great defender, regardless of his off-court controversies. Anytime you can stop MJ and give him the blues, you were an awesome defender. He also showed a great example of how you can have a great game without scoring a basket.

Another great video! Rodman was an incredible defensive player. Great example was frustrating Malone during finals. Great passer. Master of the multiple taps to get rebounds that seemed out of his range or from bigger men. Green is playing in a time without dominant big man that play down low. The game is also a lot less physical. I get the comparison but it's not even close. He was the ultimate role player and his impact on the game without scoring may never be duplicated. His energy, IQ, and toughness made him a star. Glad he got into the HoF, he deserved it.

Dennis defense was scary, shutting down Shaq was a challenge no other player would think about doing but Dennis took it on and rose to the occasion I believe Dennis would average 23.4 rebounds a game in today's NBA given the fact the league isn't physical nor tough as it was in his playing days.

Guys shots assisted, and rebounded back thenx and they do the same now. As long as those key components are around, ANY skillset from ANY era is comparable to another. How tough someone was has nothing to do with if his playstyle is similar to another players. Rodman and sraymond have similar skillsets. I can say the same about rodman and ben wallace. Rodman and Bill russel. Draymond and Bill Russell. Draymond and ben wallace, who he actually patterned his game after.

My favorite NBA player of all time since I was 10 in '94! First jersey I ever got was a Spurs Rodman #10 jersey. Then when he went to Chicago I had his red, black, and white jerseys, as well as the white Nikes, black Nikes, and his black Converse. People thought I was nuts for being a Rodman fan, but I didn't care. He influenced my play style too when I played youth ball. I was a defense guy only caring about grabbing rebounds and stealing. I think I averaged maybe 10 points per season, I didn't want to shoot. I also played Power Forward.

The big secret to elite rebounding is reading the ball as soon as the shooter releases it. You can tell by velocity and arch where its going to hit the room and/or backboard and predict its trajectory.

Dennis Rodman is one of the most impactful players ever along with Bill Russell and Ben Wallace. Defenders and rebounders are SO underrated! Great offensive players always make the hall of fame and make many all star appearances but when it comes to great rebounders and defenders often times they are overlooked. Players like Horace Grant, Tyson Chandler, Charles Oakley, etc. are also underrated as hell. Just because you're not the best or second best scorer on your team does not mean you are not the best or second best basketball player on your team.

One of the most unappreciated aspects of his career was his time in the film room. He looked like the Joker, but that only distracted you from the fact that would routinely spend hours, even allowed to skip team meetings, to watch film. He was studying how all the players tended to miss, and where the ball would typically careen off the rim. His basketball IQ was off the charts; but so was his work ethic.
