The adhesive your using is meant for vulcanizing rubber. The air mattress is made of PVC. You need to use a PVC sealant. That's likely why the first patch failed and I wouldn't expect the second one to last long term.

I ordered something from Amazon that was specifically for air mattress tear repair. I can't remember the name but all you have to do is look up air mattress patch kit. The only bad thing is you needed to leave it for 48 hours for it to set. I just put a bunch of books on top of it. But it worked beautifully. I use that bed for another 6 months, I was living someplace where I knew I wouldn't be there long and I didn't want to go to the expense and trouble of buying a bed. So I slept on that air mattress for 9 months and that one patch really worked. But the biggest deal was you have to let it set for 48 hrs or it won't take.

Please what do we do if the leak is from the pump or pump area?
@JonnyDIY2 жыл бұрын
Usually if the leak is from the pump you're out of luck and will need a new one. That or take apart the pump assembly, and try and figure whats leaking

Hi Jonny, It's me again. Just a thought, when I've repaired my Airbed's I've used Gorilla Epoxy Resin and I've used it three times all were successful. I don't use any patches, just put it straight on. Never fails. I also keep the bed at 90% blown up so the glue isn't stretched so much when hard. As you will know it's part resin and part hardener, mix it together and it bonds like magic. It's even made in America. Also I was wondering re finding the impossible leak: Is there a chance you might check out the pump and whether that could be a source of leakage ? Thanks for your help, Paul

Yeah, the plastic wrap might've kept the patch from drying as well. Thx so much for this. I let my dog on mine !!

What about holes where there is a felt layer?
@JonnyDIY Жыл бұрын
Sand extra well and will need extra glue. I've used thicker glues like e6000 on felt holes with success before

Great video. Will this same process work to repair a 4 inch tear? Thx.
@JonnyDIY3 жыл бұрын
Yes, for that big of repair I may do a sandwich patch with one patch on the inside glued and dried then one on the outside. Youll probably have better luck creating a seal that way 👍

You actually don't need a patch, tho it might be best. You can use silicone glue. I had some quikweld handy so I used it and it worked fine. So there's options that work. The hardest part is finding the leak

The worst leak to fix is definitely in the seams (the space in between the parts that rise up on top). That was fixed temporarily with gorilla tape, less is MORE! You don't need a ton of tape. I say it's the worst because it's different to patch a seam when it's not flat while inflated
@JonnyDIY3 ай бұрын
@@VIGILANTE_Eraser45semi yes you're right, seams and around the pump are tricky. Keep an eye out for more leaks. I've had them where the seams just start failing all over
