This is a great overview if you're not familiar with Discourse. I've used this platform in a few communities I was involved with in the past and agree with the review.

Thanks so much, Jason, for the kind words! Which are the features you like the most in Discourse?

@@jonobacon Definitely Trust Levels and just the ease of use for both users and admins.

Yeah, I think Trust Levels are a game-changer...and still an underused element of Discourse in how they are weaved into community management.

Jono - You are way ahead of your time -- great thought leaders connect the dots early and have to wait for the rest of us to catch up -- As AI exerts and disrupts "Community" will move to center stage to help us all evolve and cope with the massive change. Build Now to be Ready!!! Keep up the great work -- Love your content and its proven so valuable to me - TY!

Thank you for this! It's amazing (and frustrating!!) that in 2024 some of the other options don't even have accurate analytics!!!

I urgently need a brief consultation tip on whether Discourse is suitable for me or not. My task is to create a forum as part of a university project, which is supposed to be for a student-help-student NGO learning app (mobile app only). I have the mandatory requirement to use React Native and to dockerize the entire application. My plan is to build a frontend with React Native and the backend with the Discourse API. I am already familiar with the Discourse Administrator feature, but it is not allowed in my university project since I have to build the frontend with React Native. I have to use Docker and have also obtained the Discourse base image, which already includes a Postgres database. However, the problem is that the Apple M1 chips prevent the image from working (despite selecting arm-64). I urgently need help because I am very desperate and really want to use Discourse. Can any expert please help me here?

Hey! I think it depends on what the requirements of your university project are. Discourse is written in Ruby, so not sure if using it will be in violation of the requirements of your project? You can certainly use the Discourse API to build another front-end for Discourse...but the API does have some limitations.

Great video - I'm curious if you have seen good examples of a discourse community as a part of a mobile app?

Thanks so much, Martin! As for case studies...there are lots of examples of Discourse, but for mobile-specific I only know a handful of folks who have integrated it. See discourse.org/success-stories for more.

Great video! Do you know if there are any add-ons to upvote comment like Reddit? I’d like to create an engineering forum and would like to be able to have a mechanism to quantify the “quality” or “accuracy” of replies.

Thanks so much! Yes, there is a support add on you can use for upvoting topics (typically used for support feature suggestion.) meta.discourse.org/t/discourse-post-voting-plugin/227808

The reason its not: After 10 years they still are not able to comply with any containerisation best-practices.
