They took up the mantle from 70s genuises Dexter Wansel, Norman Connors, and Phyllis Hyman... us true aficianados can hear the influences of those great artists all through the efforrts of Loose Ends' earlier years... this is a fitting tribute! I like to say British Soul is what American funk jazz of the 70s would have sounded like in the 80s if we would have really supported those great artists like we should have.

Feel the same way... rare disco funk... makes no sense how DJs didn't bump this one in the 80s and 90s or even today. Thank you DJ Lil' Wicked Santa Barbara CA for putting me on! 🤙

Eugene and Nichol wanting to maintain the group's sound and McIntosh wanting to be more experimental.1990 Eugene and Nichol decided to leave, and were replaced by Linda Carriere and Sunay Suleyman. Look How Long turned out to be the final studio album released under the Loose Ends name, and featured their final hit single, "Don't Be A Fool" (1990)

The guitar was always kicking. Saw Jane a month or so ago in DC and they always have a kick ass guitar player and a singer that sounds just like Karl so even at the end of 2017 we get a little of what it was. I could not even imagine how it was during their prime.

The group had visionarys But is the leader. l don't believe anyone of them was wrong. Don't forget it was the 1980s How many successful black groups were there in the UK. I see the internal and external politics clearly. But I'm keeping this simple When I think of loose ends I see Carl Mackintosh ...

Quite a few British Soul & Funk groups did well in the '80s: Imagination. Linx. The Real Thing. etc. But often it was their label who did not support them properly, and saw these groups as a passing fad...

From my viewpoint, McIntosh was right. Music had changed dramatically by 1989. It was time to move on. Too bad that Eugene left. Her voice was sublime. They might have been able to squeeze out 3 or 4 more outstanding albums had she not left.

disagree....loose ends was no one trick pony... they could basically do it all. they were well equipped to adapt to the changes of the late 80's-early 90's. methinks mcIntosh got a bit of the big head...the changes he wanted broke the chemistry the group was built on. there is a reason why "look how long" turned out to be the last loose ends album.
@agfagaevart5 жыл бұрын
Macca was correct; Because their last LP before Jane Eugene and Steve Nicol left did well in the US but sold badly in the UK. Macca wanted to return home and get away from the bad influences in America, and he saw the writing was on the wall for them in the US. The ones with the big heads were Eugene and Nicol, because they did not want to record in Macca's South London studio after swanning around LA for about a year, living it up! :-) We all saw how the music scene changed in the early '90s with New Jack Swing, "Modern" R&B from SWV and Jodeci, etc. Macca knew the group had to move on, too bad the others couldn't see that...
