Күн бұрын

In this jolly spiffing London walk Joolz shows you around the St James Park, Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament. There is the usual irreverent chat and banter with quips and anecdotes.
Learn all about the invention of champagne, the many fires that burnt down the Palace of Westminster and the pelicans in St James Park.
Joolz Guides is a fun, charming and informative way to see London. Hopefully you will discover lots of things you might have missed by just seeing the main tourist attractions in the area.

As a working class lad from Sheffield, the son of a Steelworker and the Grandson of a Miner. I joined the British Army at 16 years old as a way out of my locality. I’ve gained a decent education in electrical and electronic engineering and have been working on the railway game for the last 6 years. My most recent project has brought me to Battersea. However, I’m residing in Vauxhall, just opposite MI6 in view of the Houses of Parliament. I find your videos (this one in particular) fascinating as they’re on my running route. From my Army days, I’m deeply patriotic and love to learn about the great and varied history of our country, even though me and my family are directly affected by the “class” system. Long love the Queen and God Bless these great isles of ours 🇬🇧

The scene at the end where you show the way through to Deans Yard is at the back of Church House, which are the administrative offices of the Church of England and the home of the General Synod, the internal legislature of the Church. It's also a conference centre and function rooms. Available for wedding receptions and even barmitzvahs (but unlikely).

Love your videos--they are so much fun! I seem to "accidentally" learn stuff I never knew about London and its history. My daughter took us (that is, my husband and me) on a quick tour of London back in 2012, when she was studying abroad (we're Americans). So now, my daughter and I watch you as you show us the stuff we missed during that hurried, hot July trip nine years ago. We love your theatrical flair, and the anecdotal songs you include (Oh! Say "hi" to your sis, as well!). Have you ever done a series based on the lost seven gates in the Roman Wall (Aldgate, Bishopsgate, Moorgate, Cripplegate, Aldergate, Newgate, and Ludgate)? I recently saw a map of those locations, along with the more-or-less-semi-circle of the Roman wall that was connected at each of its ends to the Thames, and I think it would help "foreigners" like myself get their bearings as you walk through London. Just a suggestion. I'm not even sure it would make any sense to do it that way, but it seemed reasonable from here. ;)

Going round Smith square and you didn't mention conservative central office and transport house pretty much opposite each other, though now known as Europe house and local government house respectively. Where on election nights you had two film crews filming two doors from, not far from each other. If you like Charles II, you should visit friar street in Worcester, the street he fled down towards the end of the battle of Worcester, when he knew the battle was lost and he had to flee the city and the country, it still has a lot of the original buildings from that time, and you can almost picture the scene. Henry VIII was supposed to be buried at Westminster abbey as far as I know, he was placed in a vault in Windsor to await completion of his sarcophagus but it was not completed for him, so he remains in the vault. Same with Charles I, he was hastily buried in the same vault to await the restoration of the monarchy and have a grand monument but it never happened. Also in the vault is Jayne Seymour who was supposed to be buried alongside Henry VIII at Westminster, and a stillborn child of queen Anne who was supposed to be reinterred with Queen Anne, moral of that story is if you want a grand monument don't end up in the Henry VIII vault, and the stone marker for the vault is about 20 foot away from the vault. Henry's sarcophagus was finally completed and can be seen in st Paul's cathedral as the tomb of Nelson, originally it was to be the tomb of cardinal wolsey Great video, keep up the good work.

I have a true story concerning William the Conquerors' coronation at the abbey in 1066. When William after Hastings finally got the surrender of the Londoners he was unusually merciful as Norman diplomacy goes. If you can picture Westminster in 1066 the much smaller abbey was surrounded by primitive-type timber buildings. The area outside the doors were awash with Norman mounted soldiers however concern was being expressed by the commander about the amount of londoners turning up to witness the coronation. Something got lost in translation when the conqueror left the abbey everyone cheered unfortunately this was misunderstood to be some sort of riot and the soldiers set fire to the surrounding buildings scattering the crowd so it all turned out to be a bit of damp squib.

Can't describe how much I love Joolz Guides. I left London (temporarily) just before lockdown and discovered Joolz thereafter. Watching him trundle about my beloved is heartwarming and I can't wait to come back. I'll be booking a private tour, if only to prevent him from returning to peddling. Tour guidesence is his calling!

Thank you for that enjoyed every minute of that watching it through my lunch break while sitting on the 10th floor overlooking St James' Park. Over the last 30 years I have worked either end of Queen Annes Gate and still learned so much about the area in those 30 mins. I have forwarded the link to all my work pals, who have been working from home for the past year to see if it give them some inspiration to get back into the office when it fully reopens.

The more you travel, the more you see that there are so many wonderful things in the world. It can be difficult to settle for something great when you can see that there could always be something better just round the next corner. Travel can sometimes simply be about a quest for perfection. This quest for perfection that we are looking for,we found just now in your video so the only that we have to say on you: Huge thank you and keep going!!!!!!!

I love St James’ park, worked at the MOD building across the road from Lizzie’s gaff for a while. Spent 80% of my lunch breaks giving directions to tourists.
