idk about you but i noticed how sometimes people's sole exposure to Chinese makeup is through douyin, and so they seem to think douyin makeup is the only style of makeup in China + it's Chinese women's everyday makeup routine 😅😅 so i'm glad jooshica made a point to mention that douyin makeup is like special occasion makeup

@@haruzanfuucha thx for explaining, i see what you are trying to say. but i said "SOMETIMES people".....meaning SOMETIMES you come across people whose only idea of "Chinese makeup" is makeup videos uploaded to douyin, regardless of whether or not it's actually douyin originated. in their POVs, this is "douyin makeup". you are right a lot of people don't know what xhs is, and there are some that do. BUT whether it's from douyin or xhs is aside from the point i was trying to make. i was simply saying many people in the west have limited exposure to the styles of makeup used in China. some of them see the super dramatic douyin/xhs videos (uploaded to youtube, as you said) and they think "this douyin makeup must be what girls go out everyday in" "chinese makeup style is too fake, too unnatural". and i was trying to express frustration with this very specific case.

I also looove how the look for applying the liner isn’t SO about angling the shape of the eye outward diagonally so much- i have rounded but deeper set eyes with a hood and it’s nice to be embracing that swoop instead of an illusion of a straight diagonal line towards the temple that i dont actually have

In short: Korean ulzzang makeup is ideal for everyday like school or work, very natural and you can achieve the look in like 15min? Chinese Douyin makeup is for occasions like dinner, parties and red carpet, probably gonna take over and hour but you can kill with that look.

Douyin makeup uses blurred lips just like Korean makeup and emphasizes the aegosal which means it's inspired from Korean makeup more than western makeup. Korean makeup uses highlighter for the face but much less than Douyin makeup. Douyin makeup uses a combination of two blushes for the face.

I think it's called douyin makeup rather than chinese makeup because it became popular through douyin and this style was originated on this platform. It's more of a trend than an everyday makeup look - I definitely did not see everyone look like this in public when I went back to China, most people tend to just do a daily natural makeup and at most a bold red lip. I think korean makeup is called korean makeup becuase it became popular years ago and there was no distinct platform - it ranged from youtubers to kdrama actors to kpop idols. If it became popular from a korean app such as kakao then I could see why they would name it kakao makeup but it didn't.

@@JonhoYi It didn't originate on Douyin. It predates Chinese social media, Chinese makeup styles were published in Chinese magazines and were heavily influenced by Chinese MUA Mao Geping. When it did spread online, it was first featured on Weibo and now most of the new makeup trends are from Xiaohongshu. Douyin was never a big part of it. People are just doing whatever they can to not call it "Chinese makeup" because they are Sinophobic. Westerners will even tag it with stuff like #japanese or #kbeauty to mislead people. They call manhua lashes "manga lashes" and even rebranded Chinese chunyu makeup as "Korean soft makeup". They want clout by stealing the work of Chinese creators and then refuse to even properly recognize their nationality. They always want to attribute negative things with China and never anything positive. It's so blatant and vile.

Now imply this intent to douyin, it literally translates to “tiktok” therefore it isn’t a style. Other apps like xiaohongshu have the same makeup trends and people still call it xiaohongshu makeup like- it screams racism because all those are Chinese apps, therefore it’s Chinese makeup and not a company who didn’t invent the style. Therefore, if you made something, it’s called, “JonhoYi creation” and not KZbin creation. It’s “Chinese makeup” and not douyin/xiaohongshu companies.
