Little bit of background on Joost. He was creative from a very young age and also a bit different. His father said that there are no boundaries and he should follow his dreams. They always watched the Eurovision Songfestival together so as a kid he replied that his dream would be to go to the Eurovision Songfestival. Then his dad passed away when he was 12 and his mother when he was 13. For inspiration and acceptance of the loss of his parents he travelled trough Europe. Therefore he sings that the pain and emptiness stayed with him no matter where he went. He paid for mental help but it did not work for him. Still he managed to be a very positive and joyful person as reflected in this song. He sings about the song Papaoutai from Stromae that is also about missing his father. In all of this he managed to combine lot's of cultural aspects of different European countries. Without the layer of his personal life you will notice that a lot of elements can directly be related to the European countries. The young boy and the old man represent him and his father struggling trough life and his father being an example for him. The final emotional scene represents him as a kid and his father when it all ended, the burning of the family photo and the building represents that you need to move on in life and not get stuck in the past. In the end he tells that he listened to his father (there are no borders for your dreams) and refers to him going to the Eurovision Songfestival.

information joost klein : song is a tribute to his parents at the age of 12 his father died of cancer and a year later his mother died of cardiac arrest and everywhere he went he still had pain from his parents. The point of his music is that he wants to leave pain behind and move on cleanly without pain

Love your vibe and also you just got the meaning behind the song. His dad also worked in a refugee centrum, he thought him that everyone is equil and the we as humans made borders, but they are all in your head. Its a song to unite people ❤ you should check out other songs from Joost.

@@Sheabutterss Florida2009 and I would recommend looking up the lyrics first. This song is about the loss of his parents. Live at lowlands is the best version. Then you have the song: Wachtkamer is a song about mental health and upbeat, its about when you need professional mental help but you get on a waitinglist for 2 years. And a fun song is Friesenjung with ski Aggu. Enjoy ❤️

U should watch his Joost klein his show “Pinkpop 2009” on KZbin . his other words for his dad and/or parents in front of thousands of people. Hese really an amazing artist. Especiallly as in putting his feelings in a song and unite people with it cause they all can relate in ways. I’m really for the first time so proud of the artist and song the Netherlands brought in for the Eurovision this year. 🎉

Happy tunes, sad lyrics throughout. No matter where he goes he can't escape the pain from losing his parents. At the end he finds closure, hence the burning.
