Jordan Trail day 11
Stage: Husban - Oyoon Al-Theeb
Distance: 19km
Total distance: 273km
Even though I didn't walk many kilometers today, the day provided me with a lot of great impressions.
I set out on the trail before 8 am, taking the direction to Mount Nebo. On the way, I visited Moses' Spring, which, according to beliefs, was created after his staff hit the ground. A very charming place. From here it was not far to Mount Nebo, but I had to overcome a considerable steepness. When I went out on the road in front of the church, I was greeted by bus drivers who brought tourists from different parts of the world. (Surprisingly, I didn't meet any Poles today 😀)
I went to visit the church that stands in the place where Moses was supposed to see the promised land. I've been here before but it was nice to see this place again. Especially since all the photos from that trip were cut off for me. Once I saw everything, I started looking for water. My supply was almost over and there was supposed to be no store in front of me today. So I went a bit further to a beautiful restaurant where I was greeted by the owner himself. Of course, there was coffee and that the man spoke fluent English, the conversation was very prolonged. Thanks to this, I recharged all the batteries and refilled my water supply without paying a penny.
Because it got late, I got back on the trail and experienced quite a lot of emotions. This part of the road has been the most difficult so far of all previously covered. Lots of stones, fine gravel and exposure made me take every step carefully. I covered a section of about 4 kilometers in over 2 and a half hours.
The last descent behind the ruins of Knaiseh was the worst. The rest was easy, albeit steeply uphill all the time.
I decided that when I climbed to the top, I would look for a place to put a tent on the descent. However, literally at the very top in front of a beautiful large house sat two men. They invited me for tea. I sat down for a moment but explained that I couldn't stay with them for long because the sunset was approaching and I had to find a place to stay. Then they suggested that I spend the night in front of their house.
So we talked using Google translator quite a lot because my hosts didn't speak English. Later it turned out that the house we were sitting in front of was still being finished and they had to go home. So they left me on the stairs in front of the door and went on their own. So now I'm stretched out comfortably on the mattress, covered with a sleeping bag and I'm writing this post and when I'm done I will surely fall asleep quickly.
Jordan Trail day 12
Stage: Oyoon Al-Theeb - Dead Sea
Distance: 31km
Total distance: 304km
The morning forecasts were optimistic. It was supposed to be cool and it was .... Exactly. The temperature in the shade did not exceed 32 degrees, but there was almost no shade today. Literally in one place I came across low trees and rested under one of them.
The trail itself was very demanding today, the markings have been gone for a long time and the GPS track is still just a hint. If you stick to this path drawn on your phone all the time, you could die in several places 😅
Therefore, crossing small canyons, I had to look for my own way to overcome the chasm. This resulted in slow walking and extra kilometers.
In addition, almost the entire section was uninhabited and it was difficult to get water. When I had the last liter left, I started saving. The heat was oppressive and the thirst was getting bigger. Finally, the trail took me near the Bedouin camp and there I got 2 and a half liters of water. Phew.
So I kept walking, moving slowly and keeping an eye out for stones and gravel. I finally made it to the road and had to decide...
The Jordan Trail does not go down to the Dead Sea, it just passes it sideways. I thought it would be a pity not to take the opportunity to visit this place again. So I turned right and I'm very close. From the tent I have a very nice view of the Dead Sea and tomorrow I will have to descend about 2km to the greatest depression on earth - 430m below sea level.
Today I am very tired, despite the heat and difficulties on the trail I covered a considerable distance. I am very grateful for this day because despite the effort, the trail showed me its beauty. Every kilometer was delightful with beautiful views.
Thank you very much for another day together on the trail. Good night ❤️
